Oldest and worst argument in the book to justify overpaying for mediocre talent.

This. And considering that we’ve hardly spent any money in the past few seasons it’s alright if we overpay for a player or two.
Lopetegui needs to be given a fair shake and that’s only possible if he gets the transfers he asks for.

Please tell me rodrigo 80m euros or martial 100m euros who do you choose thanks.

Personally i would go for martial as his ceilling is higher,he is younger as well so can be sold for quite a bit if it doesn't work out also martial is better for having shown better against stronger teams whereas rodrigo always becomes invisible whenever valencia faced us or farca.

Better overpay for martial who is younger and would be a better buy for the club, when i look at this squad they are far too many spaniards i know this is real madrid but come on even farca have gone away from buying too many spanish players.

"It will be a great experience to see how we can reach his (Ronaldo) garanteed 50 goals per season. It's our job to show that we are a great team even without him." (Tony Kroos, Sport Bild)

JL still didn't choose between Navas, and Courtois, but last night game could have made an impact. (Marca)

"I am not the one that can talk about it. I see that the team is good, and that we played well till extra time. If some other new players join us, they will be welcomed." (Marcelo, about new signings for AS)

"I don't think the mercato will change for us based on winning or losing tonight game. We need to prepare ourself well, pick ourself back up, and rest. For me, the most important objective is La Liga, and it starts on sunday." (Julen Loepetgui for LEquipe)

Overpaying for non-superstars is what led to a 5 season drought for Barca. Flo signed Figo(60 ME), Makelele (14 ME), Zidane(78ME), Ronaldo (45 ME) from 2000-03. Flavio(25 ME) was the only big flop during that time.

While Barca blew Figo fee and then some on Overmars(40 ME), Gerard(22 ME), Petit(14 ME), Alfonso(16.5 ME), Saviola(36 ME), Geovanni(21 ME), Christanval(15 ME) etc. Some were good players when Barca signed them, but no where near the players Flo signed who were the best in their positions.

This summer we got a world class GK for a good fee while Allison and Kepa went for twice as much. Rodrygo and Vinicius are elite Brazilian prodigies who are big investments given their age, but also costing as much as average Joes in EPL these days. If we start spending 80 ME on players with limited ceiling and a decent chance of flopping, we will miss out when opportunities come to sign quality players in future.

Rodrigo had a good season with 17 odd goals. Bacca also managed something near that while on decline. Doesn't make sense that one will cost 80 ME while other went in a deal worth 10 ME. Remember when Valencia put 60 ME tag on Andre Gomes?

Doesn’t matter who we spend on in my book as long as said player was Lopetegui’s choice.

If Rodrigo is 80ME, then I would make formal offers of 80-100ME for Lewandowski, and Cavani.

People say it's impossible, but we didn't offer anything. We can't know if we don't try.

80ME for Rodrigo is insane, even if JL asks for him.

    - The club is confident that losing last night doesn't mean much. It won't change their mercato plans.

    - The club believes losing against AM was mainly due to bad luck, and defensive mistakes.

    - Club is confident that Bale, and Asensio will lead the team this season.

    - More reasons to be positive than pessimistic.

    - Losing this game hurts, but the board will not change their stategy. The results they got these past few years prove that their strategy is the right one. (I don't see how now, and before can be compared when you lose such a great player as Ronaldo, but well)

    - That said, the board will still look at the market to see if anything interesting happens, but don't expect any crazy panic buy.

    - The club is looking to offload players like RDT, Valverde or Llorente in the last two weeks of the mercato. (as if we need to offload more with no new signing, wtf.)

Exactly, any club can sign Martial for free from january onwards as his contract ends on June 30, 2019.

Why the holy f*ck would we pay 100ME now?

I don’t care about what your or my valuation of Rodrigo is if Lope feels he is a player that will help him achieve his goals then I 100% support it, he is the coach and he should make all the calls in regards to who comes and goes and Perez should back him, simple as that.

I can't remember the last time a coach asked for signings so persistently. Maybe Mourinho when he first joined?

And it is a good thing, shows character and it’s his ass on the line come season’s end, if he doesn’t do well he is probably a goner and it wouldn’t be a fair firing if he couldn’t even get the players he wanted to excexute his project.

Has JL said anything publicly? All I see is speculation and him saying he's fine with the squad as is. Mourinho made very public statements, calling Benzema a p*ssy(cat). Even if JL did say something, he might be justified at this point. We are 46th in net spending since 2013-2014 season .

Fix the defense? Who do we replace?

    How?

We already brought replacements for our FBs. Do you want us to replace our starting CBs who were the ones who let us down the most??
