Why is the system Merkel coming to an end? Cause her demoskopiegeleiteter Opportunismus(Jürgen Habermas) is failing. In general, today’s politics seemingly is transforming into an aggregate condition defined by the abdication of perspective and the will to create (Gestaltungswille). The expanding complexity of issues demanding regulation compels [the political actors] to short term reactions within shrinking scopes of action. As if politicians have adopted the unmasking view of system theory, they follow without shame the opportunistic script of opinion poll dominated (demoskopiegeleitet) power pragmatism. http://www.deliberatelyconsidered.com/2011/05/jurgen-habermas-on-power-to-the-polls/
Just curious: have you seen any “head-to-head” party preference polls? For example: CDU vs AfD, which do you prefer? Or CDU vs SPD? SPD vs AfD? Or even a ranked preference poll where people can pick two parties to support? The reason I ask is because it seems a bit disengenious to say x is the leader of 26%. Donald Trump is probably only the leader of 15% (30% of 50%), but another 25-30% are okay with the guy because he represents the preferred choice among realistic options. It seems to me this situation is sorta similar. A quarter of the people stand behind the CDU among all choices. That’s different than asking how many support them from a range of “realistic” choices. The latter is something that the leaders of other parties can’t ignore when faced with coalition building or deciding to force new elections.
No there is no such thing and I guess it would be hardly telling in a multi-party system. What I can offer is how individual politicians are rated and how party voters see individual political topics. E.g. Are you satisfied with the work of the federal government? "Migration is the mother of all problems" Are AfD going to be successful in the longterm? Do you consider AfD a threat to democracy?
Questions like “are you satisfied with the govt?” Isn’t telling though because people are going to be dissatisfied for different reasons. It’s kind of like the GOP pushing for repeal of the “unpopular” ACA. Some thought it was overreach. Some though it didn’t reach enough. FWIW: I did find a constituency forecast that also had the 2nd place party by constituency. Union: 294 constituencies, of which 81 were 2nd place. SPD: 219 constituencies, of which 158 were 2nd place AfD: 61 constituencies, of which 44 were 2nd. As a percent of constituencies x 2: Union: 49.2% SPD: 36.6% AfD: 10.2% Other: 4%. Not the same as popular vote, but certainly illustrative of the broad approval of the Union.
Oh I can offer party followers and their opinion on singular political topics as well https://www.tagesschau.de/multimedia/bilder/crbilderstrecke-513.html https://www.zdf.de/politik/politbarometer/180914-union-auf-rekordtief-100.html Constituency votes dont mean much in personalized proportional representation aside from possibly stating that Germany is a structurally conservative country. But really, the second, proportional vote is much more telling in this regard
No need as weve got ID cards and the government knows where Muslims live anyways. We're not a third world country like the US
The trade off is that there is a national ID card that you need in order to vote and pretty much do anything. So they don’t need voter registration as they have everyone registered. Anglosphere countries tend to view such laws with suspicion.
Yes - but the suspicion is silly I don't see any difference between the ID card and passport. I think what is much more intrusive is having to register your address with the State
You do not need a passport if you do not travel, or do you? I guess you do not need a Voting ID (or so) if you do not vote.
You are not required to get a passport. Germany and others require you to get an ID. Anything that looks like you are asking about citizenship people in an uproar. When the census bureau wanted to start asking about citizenship again the left went into full freak out mode. You really expect the left to agree to a national identity card that states citizenship? And the right will freak out too. It is unamerican to require a National ID card. It is bad enough that some states have identification laws In reality we have a national ID — state driver’s licenses that meet requirements set forth by the federal government. But you cannot use it for determining voting eligibility as you do not need to be a citizen to get one (some states specifically allow illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses). When I lived in Britain I did not have a UK driver’s license. I was able to prove who I was by showing a utility bill. I did have my US passport and at some point I was given a separate registered alien card (or what ever they called it) — prior to the law change they just slapped a visa into my passport. When I got the card, my English coworkers thought the whole process (which includes fingerprinting my whole family) was in-English.
...ya knowwwww? There are a few WWII jokes I could make , but the reality is, most POCs can realistically expect to be wearing a felt pigs' foot stitched onto each garment. Unlike the victims of the First Holocaust, we'll be kept alive long enough to see the rebirth of Conservative Christian America.
Oh, good Lord... you Libertarians have already killed us, now you're going to kill each other. The state knows where you live already.
