Certainly! Her stepping down, not being able to form a coalition, and such. I'm really just using your words to define it. From less than a YEAR ago. Oh, the ecstasy!
Idk cause when brummie has to call his mom into action then things arent go well usually. But enough for desperate troll attempts. When you're bout to lose Germany's Texas
After weeks of copying AfD rhetoric CSU are still about to lose absolute majority in Bavaria at the state elections in fall. For instance, the new minister president Söder introduced a new law that made it mandatory for all government buildings to have a crucifix in the entrance: For these charts you have to know CSU usually poll around 48-55%. Remarkable considering the economy is booming, full employment and the state thanks to law&order policies seems comparably secure. Greens have surpassed SPD who are about to collapse completely, AfD are still at 12% from their federal election results. Losing Bavaria would shift the power in Bundesrat yet again away from the current government: So CSU acting contrary to Ange's party line of "not copying AfD" seems to not work out for the moment
They are going to lose the Majority, not lose the state, they will still run the state but in a coalition.
Lose the state in Bundesrat. Bundesrat is like you had no senate but instead the electoral college as 2nd chamber with governors deciding how each state would vote on bills on the federal level. Ange planned on several bills changing the federal structure and education and with Bavaria there would be a chance she could negotiate a deal. Without it she can forget about it. Hence "lame duck", hence "as good as done".
2013 Bavarian election Center - Right (CSU, FDP, FW, BP) -- 62% Center - Left (SPD, Die Grunen) -- 29.2% Far Right (Rep, NPD) -- 1.6% Far Left (Linke) -- 2.1% Other (Pirates, ODP, Franken, others) -- 4.9% Comparing this the numbers from the poll W/B 1860 put up (infratest) Center - Right -- 54% (though some of BP vote is in Other and would increase this a little) Center - Left -- 25% Far Right -- 12% (only AfD vote, Rep and NPD adds a little here) Far Left -- 3% Others -- 5% So the Far RIght has seen a big jump in the polling. Presumably the drop in Center right support has moved to the AfD, but a portion of the Center - Left may have moved there also. These are not the only polls, and other recent polls show that the CSU is doing slightly better, but they all show that the CSU cannot govern alone.
You also have to take into account that AfD usually is undervalued in polls while the bigger parties (in this case CSU) are overrepresented. Not everyone would admit in interviews they will vote AfD. "Bradley effect". Plus AfD is only 5 years old so there is not much data. FDP are also likelier closer to 5%. If they dont take the threshold CSU are in real trouble since all the other parties are pretty much out of the question for coalitions.
It seems like this thread is no longer about Angie being done...unless this is some kind of existential statement about the ultimate futility of our short lives.
Angie is pretty much outbound in any event - the transition to the next centre right leader will be managed over the next couple of years. It's a strange time for centre left voters in Hamburg really For instance my partner would normally be staunchly against CDU and I personally am hardly a great fan of the christian conservatives Yet in many respects Merkel has won over people like us - totally eaten the SDPs lunch. But on the other had none of us are happy with Merkel austerity and the lack of real gains for working people in the face of rising living costs As ever Hamburg city politics tend to matter more than what's happening in Berlin
Little definition: CDU arent conservatives. They are Christian democrats, consisting of libertarian, national-liberal, socially conservative and Christian groups. A big tent party that was created to unify what was up to 4 parties in Weimar. Hence the name "the union". They never were conservatives as in what the Tories widely defined as "the conservatives". US Republicans also never were conservatives but rather national-liberals. While winning Jitty over in the middle Merkel has forced the national-liberal and socially conservative wings out which then ended up in the creation of AfD. A mistake of historic proportions considering CDU did everything they could in the last 70 years to prevent exactly that from happening: 'The only thing right of us is the wall'
I agree many of these traditional labels don't make much sense in places like US/UK/Aust/NZ anymore - let alone when applied to Germany, which is why so many english people I talk to think Merkel is on the left. Since the 80s virtually all of the centre parties became neo-liberal oriented, differing only in how much social democratic sauce to add to the mix. And of course in germany there is more sauce than in the US, with the UK traditionally in between. But I agree in terms of policy, few could truly be described as conservative - but I use the term in context of "social conservative" This is always a tricky one. I think like any good politician, Merkel has sought to hog the centre lane, which after all, has seen her put together a winning streak. I think where she has a problem economically is that times have been good in germany, yet with the boom, too many people haven't seen the benefits, and instead have to cope with crazy housing costs and shitty working conditions. So she keeps imposing this austerity, but there really isn't support for more neoliberalism. At the same time, she isn't reforming where we need it. Like education. So she becomes only the safe option. The problem with Merkel reclaiming the far right (as we have seen the Tories do vs UKIP) is she does not want to do it by simply adopting racist policies. So I defend her on this because she did the right thing as opposed to the politically cynical thing. But in the end I guess this is how the AfD will be wiped out. I also get the impression of a party so long in power they are exhausted. In some respects they are fortunate that the challengers are also so awful!
only in Germany #Merkel‘s coalition „all Sunshine“ says social democrat chief whip Andrea Nahles. But row over details of #Migration continues to overshadow picture postcard meeting on #Zugspitze, #Germany‘s highest peak. pic.twitter.com/xkVS4zI6PP— Michaela Kuefner (@MKuefner) May 7, 2018
It is not only in Germany as the Zugspitze is also the border with Austria. I was there once (when visiting Germany for the 2006 World Cup). It is quite a beautiful scene. There were a bunch of US Army soldiers eating lunch in the cafe at the summit -- they had walked up the trails and were having lunch and then going to hike down.

Parliamentary enquiry committee about Angie's refugee policy approaching. AfD, FDP and maybe even Greens joining together for it So AfD will have 1-2 years making a meal out of this
