Just saw this. Yeah, he just "runs around a lot". Here his stats versus guys that are truly just guys that run around a lot. It's clear that he's much more.
That's why I believe if he can rediscover his scoring touch, as he did in his first season with us, it will be a serious asset to the attack and team in general. He has it in him, we've seen it.
It was anyway another player Mourinho talked loudly about. Ander Herrera has shown himself as an important piece in United's system this season, and the students heard. "Mourinho talked a lot about Herrera, saying he is one of the smartest players he has had during his career," said Skogsletten. Mourinho also told about the corner line that made the final. And as he himself had not planned! Before the match, Mourinho had made it clear that Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be out of the box on offensive deathballs and dodge Ajax if they were to be in contravention. "Suddenly Herrera took hold of the Mkhitaryan and sent him in front of the keeper, while Herrera would take the pitch outside the box. Mourinho said he was so frustrated that he tore the fourth quarter and said "what the hell is going on?" Mourinho had later understood that Herrera had noticed anything even the United coach had not remembered. "It turned out Herrera had taken responsibility in the situation. The reason was that the Mkhitaryan had a yellow card, so if Ajax suddenly put in a counterattack, and the Mkhitaryan had felt the player, he would have been expelled with a 1-0 lead. In addition to preventing potential disaster in a contradiction, Herreras moves to United Jubilee also led. For the same corner, Mkhitaryan poked United's second scoring in the match. "Mourinho said he is incredibly pleased to have such players who can handle situations on their own and adjust," says Skogsletten. http://www.nettavisen.no/sport/nors...un-oppsummere-han-med-ett-ord/3423347747.html
Very smart change of tactics by Herrera. Would be cool to see him pursue a career in management once it's all said and done.
Shades is about right. Ander doesn't have the toughness of Roy, but Ander is clearly better on the ball than Roy was. In the end, Roy's instinct for leadership and nose for being in the right place at the right time and making the right decision separated him from any number of better gifted midfielders such as Lampard and Gerrard to be the greatest overall footballer in the history of the prem era (and only the prem era). Maybe Vieira, maybe Henry, maybe Shearer, maybe Cantona, maybe Scholes, maybe even Ronaldo...but when you add it all up Keane stands apart. Too bad he was (and is) such a tortured soul. It's part of what made him so great, but it also led him to make some very bad decisions.
Yeah, better on the ball. Long essay compressed into four sentences (yeah!) Keane made his name not as a passer or a dribbler, but as a tackler and a leader. Herrera is solid as a tackler and a leader, but nowhere near Keane's class in either. Where Herrera stands apart, and ahead, of Keane is his ability on the ball. Still, all factors considered Herrera is no Keane and never will be. MEN, not known to be a Liverpool mouthpiece, assessed the relative strengths and weaknesses of two of the greatest midfielders of the prem era: Keane and Gerrard. Why the blue ******** are MEN articles being posted as evidence of players' abilities? Not that I actually want to wade into this argument - it's someone who despises Herrera for not being Darren Fletcher vs someone who says they're only going to post 4 sentences and then C+P's the entirety of some nothing comparison piece written 10 years since one of the players was relevant. And the other player isn't even up for discussion!
"Ole, ole @AnderHerrera ..." 🇪🇸🎵The midfielder celebrates three years at United today. pic.twitter.com/8YiSL3yyNJ— Manchester United (@ManUtd) June 26, 2017
Herrera distances himself from any Barca talk. He's happy, feels valued and is focused on United. www.espnfc.com/story/3158770/manchester-uniteds-ander-herrera-plays-down-barcelona-link There is talk he's getting close on a new £175-200k/wk new contract. It would be well, well deserved for him...
Ander Herrera will do everything he can to prevent Dave from leaving. www.espnfc.com/story/3159140/ander-herrera-ill-do-everything-possible-to-stop-david-de-gea-joining-madrid If anyone ever wants a blueprint on how to be beloved by fans, Herrera's path at United is a great one to follow. His actions and words keep reflecting a genuine commitment and love for the club.
Happy birthday to Ander Herrera. The Manchester United midfielder turns 28 today. pic.twitter.com/vvA2RCANjw— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) August 14, 2017 Now, please sign a new contract ...
Would rather be signed his final big contract elsewhere. It is pointless to give a back-up the contract he would demand here.
