I am originally from Michigan and so I cheer for the U.S.A. first, but I currently live in Canada and am a dual citizen so I cheer for Canada as a second team. I am wondering what it is like for any of you?
Czech Republic, or I guess USA is my second team. It's basically a tie, but when USA and Czech play for each other, I found myself rooting for Czech more despite living in America now. I am definitely a die hard fan for both though.
Rooted for Germany over the many years before the US started qualifying for World Cups again so I still like to see them win as long as its not at the expense of the US. Watching the US struggle with a number of dual nationals and a German coach has been quite disappointing, frankly.
No one. I can understand how people have a 2nd/3rd club team (for different confederations/leagues). International football is different.
just became a dual national in Ireland! so I'm always rooting for the Irish. Grew up with a great love for Argentina and as long as we don't play them in tournaments I am rooting for them
1) USA As a dual citizen 2) Italy Working in immigration I root for these next three times, outside of playing us or in possible results that would be detrimental to the USA 3) Mexico 4) CR 5) Jamaica
As mentioned above whoever's playing Mexico. Its long gone now, but great feeling when Panama was beating them and T&T coming back on them. I'm sure their diehard fans feel the same way against us.
Brazil, by marriage. Let's just say that when the US beat Brazil on that lovely Preki goal, she didn't talk to me for about a day.
No it's not. I can easily support a nation on one side of the world and another on the other side of the world. You say you understand for different leagues, but how can you not understand different continents? How often do say USA and Australia play each other competitively or USA vs China, etc. This is no different than me support LA Galaxy and Aston Villa.
Die Niederlande - My introduction to elite European club football was from watching Dutch Eredivisie games Sunday mornings on ESPN 2 in the mid 90's. (seriously, nobody else watched those games?) Ajax were European kings, PSV and Feyenoord were very formidable sides as well. PSV had Ronaldo at the time. Feyenoord had Henrik Larsson...I genuinely wasn't sure if he was male or female when I didn't know his name. Anyway, became a big fan of Ajax and die Niederlande by proxy. Total football. Now it's just one side of the field. But at least it's the better side. From an entertainment standpoint, who cares about defense, as long as you are trying. I started a defensive mid, but converted into a very good dribbling and goal scoring attacker. That's what I am at heart, and want to see now.
1. USMNT 2. Turkey - family from there. 2008 European Cup and 2002 World Cup were amazing. Wish they could make it back into any freaking tourney.
Belgium. My wife's company is headquartered in Belgium so I've met a ton of people from there and have to say they are good folk. I love that a country that small can produce such talent. It's all football there though. There's no cricket, no rugby, no baseball, maybe a little hockey or basketball, but otherwise, football. 2B for me would be the Dutch, although I was more a fan of their's during the Bergkamp era. Ever since DeJong took out Holden I've cooled on them.
USA-Colombia in a virtual tie for first place. I was born in the USA but my dad is from Colombia and he taught me the beautiful game. When they face each other I root for a draw.
