Thanks for both of these. I have been wondering when Uhl was going to show up as I know he had been looking in Europe. ALso had Alexander at another club, but he is on the club's site now on the roster page.
Jermaine Jones got a mention in the UEFA cup game today. About US and German interest. He then picked up a yellow. Looks like he is at Schalke now. EDIT - And I see someone already mentioned that.
The one guy you mentioned Nick Gkionis, has a blog that he is using to keep track of his experiences. You can see it at... http://beyondthepondprosoccer.blogspot.com/
Another version of Football Manager has been released. Here are the Yank Abroads in the game, i only included those who did not have Bigsoccer.com show up as the first results when i googled them. Reda Johnson - Amiens SCF(France) - According to Wiki was born in France to an American father and Algerian mother. http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reda_Johnson Christopher Ascherl - Wisla(Poland) - Right Midfield, 2/1/1986. Thanks (and rep) for these. Ascherl and Maroni I have heard of, but the other two are new. I'll look into all of them when I get a moment. If you don't mind including all the other guys, including those on small teams, I'd be very grateful.
Here is a list from the game. A couple of notes, the list below is of any player who has American listed as one of their nationalities, some of them may already have caps for another nation. Also the first data update for the game has not be released so there is a chance a few of these are wrong(for instance Kamani Hill is not in the game yet). The list is broken down by country the team is located in. Player Name, birth year, and club name. If you need me to lookup any further info on a player in the game let me know, some players have birthplace, previous clubs, etc... listed. That's great, thanks. Skimming it, I can see several names of guys who are not Yanks, or not with the teams listed, or are retired, but there's definitely some new stuff to chase down there. Really appreciate it.
possibly helpful with the list you received from sammy87: Ryan Caugherty http://www.gatewaynewspapers.com/woodlandprogress/89011/ 25, played at Wake Forest, high school at Penn Hills (PA) assuming citizenship, but could be wrong... brings up his previous teams in europe
I wasn't aware of this, but Marcus Storey had a trial with German lower-division team TuS Heeslingen this summer. PDF: http://www.tarmshaba.de/assets/plugindata/poolb/Kreispokal 1707.pdf A player named Jamie Miller was also there at that time; no idea who that is, but maybe someone to look out for. Neither is currently at the club.
Shane Smeltz of Wellington Phoenix http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/11/21/sports/AS-SPT-SOC-WCup-Oceania.php
Thanks. This is a guy I've been looking at, but I didn't have the newest club info. By the way -- are you interested in getting a list of names to research? You help out a lot around here, so I'd be happy to give you more work. PM or e-mail me through bigsoccer if so.
on Wiki page for the Windsor, Ontario Border Stars of the CPL, Tino Sclicluna has a US flag by his name. Not sure if thats a mistake or if the rest of the Scliclunas on the squad are American too. There is a supporters page linked on the Wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windsor_Border_Stars
There are a bunch of Scicluna who I think are from Michigan, which would make sense for Windsor; some of them have played in Malta, too. But it's a common name in Malta...
Logging: Victor Corona, a member of the 2005 state championship team, just completed his second year at Walla Walla Community College after turning down a chance to play professional soccer in Mexico after graduating from high school. That game is almost entirely right. Though Greenberg is a youth team player. He has 4 goals in 13 match in the national under-21 league. Looks like he might turn out to be a good player. Last season he had 8 goals in 18 matches in a younger national league. He has yet to play for any youth national teams and would be a good guy to bring into one of your ODP camps. Israel Tom Almadon (1984) - Maccabi Haifa [Israeli and US citizen] Asaf Crispis (1984) - Maccabi Herzliya (on loan from Maccabi Tel Aviv) [Israeli and US citizen] Ronny Gafney (1980) - Maccabi Haifa [Israeli and US citizen] Bryan Gerzicich (1984) - Hapoel Haifa [US citizen, holds Argentine passport] Michael Greenberg (1990) - Maccabi Petah Tikva [US citizen, born in Israel] Jordan Gruber (1983) - Maccabi HaShikma/Ramat Hen [US citizen, holds Israeli passport now] Leo Krupnik (1979) - Hapoel Bnei Sakhnin [US citizen, holds Israeli passport now] Yossi Rosen (1979) - Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv [Israeli, US Green card holder]
Dave, what makes Stephen McPhee of Hull City an American? I've looked at his Hull City profile (http://www.hullcityafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10338~5637,00.html) and his wiki page (http://www.hullcityafc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10338~5637,00.html) and don't see anything. He was born in Glasgow, and has been in Europe his whole career. Does he have an American parent or something?
Dave, I decided to check up on the players you have listed in the Irish league it appears that Jimmy Crawford has now left Shelbourne FC of the Irish league: http://www.shelbournefc.com/news.php?id=792 He is unattached right now. Jaime Duffy has moved from Shamrock Rovers to Dundalk FC. http://www.dundalkfc.com/News/071206_Duffy.html Dundalk is in the FAI first division (which is the second tier) Ryan Guy is still at St. Pat's Athletic. http://www.stpatsfc.com/player.php?playerid=51
Dave, Do you know about Ian Wexler? On Longford Town's wiki page he's listed as an American. I went to Longford's website and couldn't find him. They don't seem to have a "players" section. I saw Jamie Duffy in some of their matchday squads since he was on loan there last season. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place: http://www.ltfc.ie/ Here's his wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Wexler
I checked the first page and didn't see this guy listed. Morgan Cathey plays for Ajax Cape Town and is listed as an American on his wiki article. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Cathey Since this is a feeder club for the real Ajax I wouldn't be surprised if he gets brought in by the Dutch parent club.
Ian's on my list. Since Ireland is out of season, you probably won't see him on there when I publish the new version later this month unless I can confirm that he's going to be there for 2008. Cathey is also on the list. It's my understanding that he's the #2 in Cape Town, so I don't know if that means he has much of a shot of getting to Amsterdam at this time.
A few names that have popped up here over the years are apparently on the list for the 2008 pay-to-play InfoSport combine, including Christian Arrieta (Italy), Cris Camacho (Moldova), Laurent Manuel (Israel trials), Kevin Mesa (Switzerland rumors), Kevin VanDenBerg (pre-college Euro rumors) and Andrew Wheeler (possible Scotland trials).
Hey Dave, if this has been posted before, forgive me. But, new kid on trial at Hertha BSC: Ellis McLoughlin, striker from your U18 MNT. From the Hertha site: Testspieler aus den USA ....
