Zardes with a nice headed goal in six yard box for Columbus in their preseason match this afternoon. Then he scored the same goal for the winner at the end of the half. Two slightly different headers (one power, one finesse touch) from exact same spot. Good for you Zardes!!!
That's more goals than he scored in all of 2017 (and maybe more headed goals in his entire LA Galaxy career)! Happy to see the trade is working out for both sides so far.
Yeah, I was being a bit facetious. Two Galaxy alums (LD and Omar) will go head-to-head in LigaMX this weekend when Leon face Pachuca. Pretty good interview with LD here: https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/02/22/landon-donovan-club-leon-mexico-us-soccer-election-usmnt
Sean Franklin moves from DC to the Whitecaps. Thankful to be entering my 11th season and excited to be joining @WhitecapsFC 🤙🏾— Sean Franklin (@SFranklin5) February 22, 2018
He looked good and so did Columbus. Lots of first game jitters and give-aways in dangerous areas! I like that Berhalter is obviously wanting them to play on the ground out of the back, whatever the cost early.
He needed that change of scene badly. Good for him. I hope he learns to embrace Columbus like he did LA.
.@Hector__J16 & @gyasinho both began their pro ⚽️ careers with the @LAGalaxy. 💫Now teammates once again at #CrewSC, @Alex_Stec_ sits down with the duo to talk about life in Cali, their friendship and a new season together in 🖤&💛. pic.twitter.com/N2kO0v0kzt— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) March 8, 2018
I have never been in Columbus, but I don't see how they can be considered similar. Bakersfield is a midsized city in the central valley. Columbus is a large metropolitan area in the Midwest with the weather to with it.
2 goals for Zardes, inc. a game-winning perfectly placed PK. I think this move was good for him. On the other hand, the crowd, or lack thereof, argues against the Save the Crew sentiment. I think there will be more people in attendance at the Michigan v, OSU hockey game this afternoon in Columbus.
I have been to both, and actually like a lot about Bakersfield, including perhaps surprisingly, the restaurant scene. But Columbus is at a whole different level. Not only does the University provide a level of sophistication, there is Germantown and .....BRATWUST. Brats are not BWHDs, but very good in their own right.
Would you give money to Precourt after what he did to your club? It doesn't go against the Save the Crew movement, it's Columbus giving Precourt one last middle finger. Seriously, STHs cancelled their season tickets en mass after the Austin move was announced a day after they collected money for them and long time fans refuse to go to games now. I don't blame them, Precourt and MLS have shown no willingness to work with the movement to keep the Crew in Columbus, despite Precourt having been given a market value offer by a local ownership group and local government and businesses stepping up to help. There is essentially nothing that is going to keep the Crew in Columbus at this point. The worst part is (well, not for fans in Columbus) Precourt owning a team in this league will continue to be a detriment to it as a whole, regardless of whether the team he owns is in Austin or Columbus because he's a severely under-capitalized slim bag owner. F*** Precourt. Long live the Columbus Crew.
I understand the sentiment and concur in the conclusion. However, I am interested to learn where you heard about the market value offer to buy the club. What I read (admittedly on Twitter and therefor only maybe reliable) was that the offer was to buy 49% of the club. That leaves Precourt stuck in what he views as an untenable economic position. And how did local businesses step up? Agree that giving money to Precourt is unpalatable. But there are players out there giving their all for those fans and playing entertaining soccer, and the lack of supports has to hurt them.
LOL, maybe compared to LA? Yes, not much of a compliment to Columbus. Not a good way to endear yourself to your new fans.
