Miami FC is to join the NASL for 2016. With all the debacle with Becks and the stadium situation, are we going to support this 100% and prove the Miami soccer market is a great market for soccer franchises? Remember now we have the strikers to the North who hate our guts, and wish us the worst in support and life of this team (Flight 19). We need to support this thing spread the news and get people to get on the soccer hype train as the rest of the country is doing. We are Miami, we should be the best at supporting soccer in the states, we are the capital of soccer, lets show them that.

in many ways this is a gift, we now have a chance to practice before Miami MLS comes around, we also have a chance to grow support for the game in Miami, so lets do it 305.
Next year is going to be great, Copa America Cetenario, the SoFlo Derbies, and hopefully we still wont be in the dark with Becks.

I heard this guy wants to put this team on the map, I dont know how but I keep hearing these guys have connections in the TV business, so im hoping they put a strong campaign to advertise this team to miami and get people out to the games, and maybe bring some players with talent, but definitely advertise the hell out this team, specially that there is a rival to the north.

Hey @SoccerPrime are we going to get a forum in the NASL section?

Having representatives in all tiers of the USSF pyramid is a great thing for the region. Now all we need is a USL feeder team when MBU gets their ducks in a row...and if it falters, then someone should capitialize on the hype and start an independent Miami USL Pro franchise and go the Orlando City route to MLS.

    What's the play?

    Support pro soccer for once.

45 years, and Miami has never done it. That is not a shot, a troll, or being a wise ass.

    That is an undeniable fact.

    Support a team.....for once.

I agree, support them. We could use another strong team in the NASL. Having a strong NASL will only help to grow soccer in the US.

Now the only question would be how can they both survive? MLS and NASL in Miami, is it possible that Maldini and Becks can somehow work an agreement, building the NASL team to then transfer them to MLS? Just how Minnessota United was in NASL and is to go to the MLS in the future....

Weren't they team mates before? Why would Maldini do this to BEcks? Unless there is something else we dont know...

The only issue with that path is why would the NASL grant an expansion team to a group that wants to move to MLS? Why would they assist a competitor to the Strikers who in turn would join a rival league and probably destroy the NASL presence in the market? It appears that Miami FC plans on being its own entity. If it was a USL team than that is a different story.

Minnesota United decided to join MLS because that was the only way it could survive. The other option was to compete against a Vikings led MLS team.

This sudden influx of Miami soccer is awesome but gets annoying when ur stuck in limbo, what the hell happened and what the hell did they decide on during that meeting today? I hope it was progress and not just a simple agreement for a later meeting to decide a location

NASL in Miami will have almost zero impact on MLS.

I disagree. I mean they aren't going to suddenly give up and stop, because they know (as everyone should know) MLS trumps NASL. That doesn't mean it won't affect their ability to follow through with their plans. An NASL team being in the market will affect how people view Beckham's plans, and respond to them.

Maybe. If in fact NASL accomplishes more than a celebrity owner announcing his intention to join a league and use a recycled name.

They will respond by going to the team with a stadium, larger payroll, three DP's and is in the top division.

Then again we may only be talking about a few hundred fans total for both teams anyway....so who cares.

An ownership who can and is willing to think outside the box is one of the few ways they can stay relevant especially if they can embrace the underdog role.

I've always said that success in the Open Cup is something that NASL sides should focus on. Miami FC vs the Miami Beckhams would be good theatre.

The name is just too bland tho...the next ownership group with a rebrand may have better success in the future.

    OK.

Are you saying the NASL team will make the politicians respond to Beckham's plan, and if so how?

How do you think politicians are going to react to one group asking for public help in building a stadium when another group isn't? Beckham has already faced a lot of opposition, this NASL team is only going to make that opposition stronger, and possibly bring those on the edge to their side.

Naw, Miami MLS will be ok, the only reason the politicians are in it are solely to make money off of him, Miami MLS will happen

    Really?

The opposition has from day one wanted Becks to spend his money in a way they wanted. They dearly want the money, but where they want it, and of course building a stadium that suits the Hurricanes needs. That has been the goal from very early on. The early naive pie in the sky waterfront projects never had much of a chance.

If they can get Becks and Claure to spend their fully financed stadium on that they win.

That's really all it's about, and any opp there is to that, and it won't be much....the politicians will push right aside.

The new Miami NASL team has no bearing on that. It is easy publicity for NASL, and moronic hacks like Ives, and here in net fantasy world, but make no mistake....

....they want Becks, his money, and they want the stadium. They just want it on their terms with the Hurricanes included. That is the opp, and it dissappears in a heartbeat if they get close to what they want.

NASL is essentially meaningless in this.

Personally I hope their demands are so ridiculous Garber and MLS nix it, and Miami FC can have Miami, a community that has never ever supported a pro US team over 50 years, and barely supports their other pro teams.

Maybe they can improve on that 1,000 crowd average, inflated BTW, that had the last Miami team move to Ft. Lauderdale just three years ago....with Romario BTW.

Sounds a awful like Orlando soccer scene before OCSC came to town. Exactly even well except Orlando has half the market size and never ever approached Miami's ability to pack it in for int'l friendlies.

PS Romario was long gone before they moved to FtL.

Nope, there are now even less relevant than the MLS team. But the rumor still is they will be at FIU.

Still think "Miami FC" is a terrible name and reeks of NASL looking to capitalize on the situation.

Since its looking more and more likely that the MLS side is going with Inter Miami, I'm going to start campaigning for the NASL club to go with Atletico.

    Miami doesn't do bland lol

At best, it'll be a placeholder, and will have to move or fold when Beckham finally gets his rhetorical ducks in a row.

At worst, it could fail miserably like every other pro soccer team that has ever called Miami itself home, and could take Beckham down with it whether he wants it to or not.
