Michy scored in Belgium, he scored in France, he's scoring in Germany. He also scored here - more than the much heralded Lacazette, mind you - with extremely limited minutes. I think it's something wrong with us rather than him.

To Nice's point, he just doesn't fit Conte's style right now (which you can argue but has been very successful). And he isn't really Messi that we can cater to this strengths. Personally, I hope he comes back as he has talent and seems to be driven.

Watched full highlights and there are several instances of really great hold up and link up play and a some of him ********ing up. Where does this mentality that he is incapable of those things come from...?

And FFS Eden Hazard isn't Drogba yet can be utilized as a striker yet the striker (Michy) can't? Riiiiight.

He wasn't good with holdup play in Conte's system. That isn't debatable.

Now in the 3 matches I've watched BVB play his link up has been generally pretty good bordering really good. Hos hold up play has been adequate too but mostly because of their system allowing for space. He has absolutely excelled though with his positioning and finishing which wasn't an issue with us. Chances, both getting to play and getting service with us was just awful. He is getting both with BVB. He has long stretches where you don't notice him even now, but my guess is those will dwindle because he's quickly become their focal point. Sometimes, just putting yourself about in the box is good enough if the players around you can provide the service.

Our service is generally pretty poor.

No one here thinks Hazard is a striker.

    Didn’t say that did I?

Only point is Conte seems to think Eden is a valid option there despite having none of the qualities of a target man yet Michy doesn’t fit? Doesn’t add up for me.

Meh, arguments going nowhere. Its the club and Antonio looking stupid given Michys excellent performances thus far w Dortmund, not me.

Who are you arguing with? I've made my case regarding Michy well known both here and on the BVB boards.

Fair enough. I haven't watched BVB's games so can't comment on how he is doing. If he keeps his form, hopefully he will play here next season.

He sure wasn't doing that for us, was he?

Could it be.......because we play a very different system?

Yeah, Conte is such a stupid what with his horrible track record of winning league titles everywhere and getting as much as possible with the weakest Italy squad in 40 years.
Why didn't he change his system to accommodate Michy?

Michy's scoring record for Chelsea is very respectable, if you factor in that he was primarily used as a (late) substitute.

It is pretty clear though that Conté doesn't trust him, for whatever reason.

So is the reasoning that Conté had no say whatsoever in the Batshuayi signing? Which would be odd, considering that Conté had already been contracted for several months by the time Batshuayi signed. You'd think that at the very least, he would have asked to okay the signing?

Because this is more or less who he has always been, in terms of his skillset.

Given how little Conte trusted him, I think that’s a fair assumption.
I agree with you that Michy is a talented player (although his goal scoring record looks better due to sub appearances and cup games), but when he started he wasn’t very good at most of the other things Conte needed him to do. As presently constructed, Conte’s system works MUCH better with a bigger striker who can hold up the ball, bring others into play with good touches and score with his head. That....doesn’t describe Michy very well. But Michy’s skill set is very similar to Aubameyang’s (they’re fast strikers that thrive in space and play off the shoulder of the last defender), so it’s not a surprise he’s thriving in the BvB system so far, even if he’s very unlikely to keep scoring at this rate.

That we simply didn’t look very good with Michy leading the line doesn’t mean Michy isn’t a good player, just that he’s a bad fit. But then, Alonso has been great for us and he washed out at Sunderland. Even Pogba with all of his talent is struggling when asked to play in a pivot. Right time and place is far more important than people acknowledge.

Our loan strategy is actually perfect for our manager strategy if we recognized it. Stash quality players abroad who don’t meet the current gaffers tactics, wait a season or two whilst they get minutes and develop their skill set and let the new gaffer take advantage of a bigger player pool than they otherwise would have.

I am certain that Michy can be a hugely productive player for us but it’s clear he doesn’t fit the system Conte deploys, giroud is a far better fit. That doesn’t mean Michy won’t be back as soon as next season with an important role.

Ultimately this loan is win win. Michy gets playing time in a different league and boosts his confidence. We don’t have to let him rot on the bench getting few minutes and increasingly depressed. Conte gets a new round peg to fit the round hole he has. Michy adds value to his transfer fee if it is determined he should be sold (which would be premature but not exactly out of the question).

Really good take KDB and one that I agree with.

All that said, I prefer the club move away from this model as I stated ad nauseam.

If our model stays the same, which lets be honest, likely will as we've seen nothing but success in a decade and half. This model works.

Our policy has been like this for years. When Emanelo was here he did the scouting and pushed for players. Bats was one of those.

Right, well, I'm sure they told Conte who they were after that summer outside of Conte's apparent own wish to sign Kante. I'm sure he was all for signing a top young goalscorer from Belgium.

Honestly, most clubs operate under this. If a managerial reign averages 1 year to a year and a half, who in the hell would let managers have free reign?
