Does anyone know if Algarve Cup has an award for the top-scorer of the tournament? Currently, three players are tied at three goals: Emily Gielnik (AUS), Kumi Yokoyama (JAP) and Pernille Harder (DAN).
Spain-Canada should be one hell of a final! =-D Also, poor Denmark: it was probably too much to ask for Portugal to beat Canada, but all they needed was just one goal and Denmark would've been in the final instead!
Or probably they knew a tie was enough to reach the final and they wanted to rest a little before it. After all, Algarve is a tournament of 4 matches in 9 days. Having some rest can be key...
How the Fcuk does Australia win their group and only make it to the 5th placed playoff ? Oh, some are saying third placed playoff against Denmark, and Wikipedia changed a few minutes ago too . . . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Algarve_Cup
As a Wikipedia editor myself: never use Wiki as a primary source, always check what it references. Also, Lechus7 already said Australia was in the 3rd place game above.
Canada 2-0-1 Spain 2-0-1 Denmark 2-1-0 Australia 2-1-0 Netherlands 2-1-0 Japan 2-1-0 Sweden 1-1-1 Russia 1-2-0 Iceland 0-1-2 China 0-2-1 Portugal 0-2-1 Norway 0-2-1 Final = Spain vs Canada 3rd = Australia vs Denmark
Herdman brought over a lot of newbies; have you heard ever before names like Lamontage, Stratsikis, Agnew, Huitema or Lenasseor? His gotten rid of his previous lineups of fashion model types; Sesselmann, Leon, Kyle, Filigno are all gone, for much meaner, tougher ones. The final will be between two types of soccer and well determine the future of woso, the more so called beautiful game, played by Spain(though with it's endless passing and then what the heck, let's pass some more!, some might find it a bit boring) or Herdman's vision of a more brutal, physical type game. We'll see who which way the wind blows
Only if you with everyone means Denmark, this years: Portugal 0 - Russia 1 Portugal 0 - Denmark 6 Portugal is no longer a team one can easily beat without effort, but with effort they are still rather easy to beat.
Yeah, I think I was only looking at goal differential when I made that comment. But still, Canada beats Denmark 1-0, Denmark beats Portugal 6-0, equals Canada beats Portugal..... NOT, it's a tie! I think @blissett hit the nail on the head in an earlier post. Canada probably resting key starters.
Predictions anyone? Let see how is my crystal ball: Spain vs. Canada 2-0 or 3-1 Australia vs. Denmark 1-0 or 2-1 or draw with Australia win on pk Japan vs. Netherlands 3-1 or 2-0 (unless Takakura won't go again for a practice session) Sweden vs. Russia 1-0 or 2-0 Iceland vs. China 0-1 or 0-2 Norway vs. Portugal 3-0 or 3-1
My crystal ball is a little dim, but it says: Spain vs. Canada 2-0 Australia vs. Denmark 2-0 Japan vs. Netherlands 4-2 (with at least a brace by Yokoyama and at least a goal by Miedema ) Sweden vs. Russia 4-0 Iceland vs. China 0-0 Iceland wins at pso Norway vs. Portugal 4-1
hopefully you & Lechus are right, but I think Canada's brute, ruff house tactics will win over Spain's beautiful game, and a new world order will be in place!
I on the contrary, as much as I don't like the style of Canada's game, nominated him to the best coachFIFA award on 3rd place during voting.
