Pittsburgh Riverhounds. 4-2 Akron Zips David Egbo shone for Zips. 2-2 HT, and then the men separated from the boys. This has become a yearly pounding for Zips. It is good for them; toughens them up. I love visiting Pittsburgh and Highmark stadium is really cool. Spring is just around the corner.
Meet the 2018 Zips Men's Soccer Recruiting Class with Head Coach Jared Embick. This is a must read for Zips fans. http://uazips.blogspot.com/2018/02/meet-2018-zips-mens-soccer-recruiting.html
No one is talking about it, so I will. I did not make the trip, but I am told that the Nittany Lions were very inhospitable to Zips, handing down a 6-1 Spring ass-whipping. Any witnesses?
Another drubbing at the hands of Crew SC! Crew B 2-0 Akron. I am almost grateful that these are closed to the public each Spring. From what I hear, the contest was not as close as the score might suggest.
Akron Zips M Soccer @ZipsMSoc Akron's men's soccer home exhibition vs. FC Porto Canada on Friday (3/16) will start one hour earlier at 6 p.m. instead of the original 7 p.m. start at FirstEnergy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field. Admission is free. @ZipsMSoc I was hoping they would move this indoors, considering projected high of 33F and breezy. NOT!
Once a Zip, always a Zip. SEA2 2-1 POR2 In his first start for Sounders II, Nick Hinds drew the PK for the first Sounders' score (41:20) and slotted in the second himself, shortly thereafter. I call that a good debut for the rookie. https://www.sounderatheart.com/thef...tland-timbers-2-live-stream-game-time-lineups
God, that was cold! Better turn out than expected in the freezing weather. Dozens were in attendance to see Zips trounce FC Porto, a youth academy from Toronto. It is not too soon to say this: Catch the brilliance that is David Egbo while you still can! He is looking more special every outing! He is unlikely to play out his full eligibility. Such touch! Such poise! Remember the name David Egbo.
Niko! https://www.onceametro.com/nyrb2/20...-the-season-with-a-2-1-win-over-toronto-fc-ii "Speaking of SuperDraft picks NYRB’s second round pick Niko De Vera had an impressive game in my opinion. He provided a constant outlet down the left hand side for NYRB II and he put in some nice crosses as well. I thought his positioning for the most part was good, although they were times he was caught up field but that will improve will more game experience. If he settles in as he did in this game that would be big for RB2 going forward."
It's great to see him doing at least somewhat well. I was worried about him because of his wee tiny size. By the end of his time at UA, he had finally stopped what I consider his biggest weakness: biting on long diagonal balls that he should never try to intercept. He really did a great job knowing when to contain and when to try to hit the home run.
Height 5'5" Shoe Size 12.5 I understand that Niko scored very highly at the MLS combine in Explosion, Speed, Quickness and Agility. His height kept him out of the 1st round. Yes. A younger Niko would quickly pounce on a long diagonal pass, only to find that he was too short once he got there. The senior Niko stuck to his man. His lefty counter balls from the back became lethal. Certainly RBFC saw this as well. Great guy! Zips Nation loves Niko De Vera. We will never forget him burying his PK in Louisville this past Tourney.
There's a thread on twitter talking about how only six of players in camp with the US right now played college soccer. But what I just realized is that of those six, three played at Akron: Nagbe, Trapp and Yedlin. That's a pretty interesting stat, imo.
Yep. There was some expectation that Perry Kitchen would get a call-up in the near future. This again accentuates the USMNT painful failure in missing Russia 2018.
Perhaps I didn't see it but nothing on Akron's site about the transfer. I agree that he sounds like he could be an impact player. From his bio: "has 11 siblings, including six brothers..." I wonder if any of those brothers are younger and play?
Akron 2-4 Charleston I guess that Canton OH made this a home match for Zips. Marcel Zajac scored a FK goal, and he also served up a really sweet crossing assist to David Egbo. But this match was overall a worrisome and lackluster effort by Zips. Probably only 4 or 5 Zips playing in this match will start come Fall. That is just the cold, hard facts. #14 David Egbo continues to shine. He is so strong on the ball. Big things are on the horizon for this guy. The reigning D2 champions University of Charleston (WV) are really quite good. They could compete in any conference in D1. If you doubt me on this, go watch a Golden Eagles match.
