Since last game it's as if Puli has evolved, he's added the look-first and pass-to-the-free-man-behind to his repertoire.
Here is Christian Pulisic’s assist to Batshuayi for a likely Chelsea winner vs Ajax in the Champions League #USMNT https://t.co/qWYcGZ5I4M— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 23, 2019
It is important to note that he did NOT get credit for an assist: 1) Last weekend.... where he beat two defenders to penetrate the zone and crossed towards Alonso... Odoi intercepted the ball and then tapped it to Alonso for the game-winning goal... so CHO gets the assist. I like CHO BTW.... I am not at all bashing him. 2) In the 2-2 draw against Sheffield United where he knocked the ball out of the keepers hands allowing Tammy to tap it in.
The fact that Mount doesn't have a single assist after all of the minutes he has played is troubling to me... Tammy also doesn't have a single assist.... I don't worry as much about Tammy because he is paid to put it into the back of the net first and foremost... but as a midfielder it is quite odd to go this long without an assist. Too bad we can't put Mount's goal scoring ability into CP.... that would make for one heck of a player.
I was pointing this out in the first match. Mount and Tammy are basically turning to goal and trying to score. That's great, but what happens when it's not? CP from the first moment is trying to combine with teammates and create at the top of the box. As a player your capacity will be found out sooner or later. Mane for liverpool for me was just a seriously talented goal scorer, but at Pool he has transformed his game. I don't know if Tammy can downshift like that. Mount had a different job tonight and credit to Frank, he came in and executed a well conceived game plan. The Chelsea of Valencia days seems to have learned.
