    Brisbane for me.

Why? Because I have a family connection to Fitzroy. My natural grandmother is a Brisbane Lions supporter and yes she followed Fitzroy when they were around.

    My younger cousin follows Brisbane.

Wake up to yourself. The Brisbane Lions do have many followers. Don't forget that the Bears and Fitzroy merged and they have a heap of supporters who used to follow Fitzroy.

from 11-11:30 they will have a guide/tutorial on Aussie Rules, titled A-Z of Aussie Rules, then 11:30 to 4am is the game. what they plan on showing for all of that time i have no idea.

i am hoping for lots of highlights of the season.

From 11:30, expect to see most of the pre-match pageantry, including the induction of the newest members of the hall of fame and the handing down of the guernseys, salutes to prominent retiring players, pre-match entertainment and all that jazz. Plus there will be quite a bit of pre-match analysis that we're not used to in the States.

And, oh by the way, GO THE LIONS!

So, Good Morning and Happy Grand Final day to all Down Under.

Here in Cali (where we're still putting on the appearance of putting in a full day's work), the pies are defrosting, half a case of Toohey's New is in the fridge (don't ask, I'm sworn to secrecy), and we're just about ready.

    Enjoy the day, everyone.

    WTF!?!?!

rubbish, sworn to secrecy! tell me now how you got it, and how i can get my prefered XXXX although i will take (in not particular order) Carlton Cold or VB (in honor on the non vic final ;)

i think i might have a few XXXX's left over from last time the in laws came to the states. also, they brought smirnoff ice cans, but not the crap we have here (malt liquor) its actual vodka and citrus mix, 7.0% content to.

back to grand final stuff- go LIONS!

My sources are, how shall we say..."unlicensed". Personally, I'd prefer a Carlton Draught and a Four-and-Twenty for that true MCG experience...but we make due how we can.

currently watching the "A-Z of Aussie Rules" and they just said-

"3 teams have yet to win a grand final.... brisbane lions"

i knew this thing seemed a bit old.

    Looking forward to the final...

This pregame entertainment is pretty horrible. I thought the Superbowl was annoying but this silliness has got that beat. Is it always this bad? I have to ask since I only got FSW a few months ago and this is my first final.

Christ!! A half-hour in and not one Boo8ie yet :) I thought Australia was supposed to be ahead of the curve, not behind...

They run this same A-Z show every year. I've watched 4 or 5 Finals in the past 8 years or so and I think the same A-Z show has been on every time.

GO Collingwood, I mean Essendon, I mean who the heck are these two? I guess Brisbane won last year, right?

    Thx,

    Jay!

ps This Adelaide song is awful....awful catchy!

First quarter over, Port suprisingly full value,
Akermanis seems to be held in check, and with Lynch off,
    Brisbane suddenly look average.

I'm just hacked that the Saints didn't make it...

...in any event, someone will end up 50 points ahead
by the end of the 3rd quarter and I can go to bed....

...there hasn't been a good Grand Final since '92
when West Coast won their first over Geelong.

Although there is some intrigue this year in that there
are no Victorian sides involved for the first time ever.

2nd quarter underway, Lynch still out. Akermanis will
have to step up to an even higher level....

    ....Ablett (Gary)....
    ....Daicos....

....not many have been able to reach that level.

    Can Akka do it?

The Crows were created from thin air, but I believe there has been a
SANFL side named Port Adelaide for decades.... were they not hacked
when the "new" Port Adelaide showed up?

This game has alot going for it right now. [result]1 point at the half[/result]. All the brawling in the first quarter. Hard to believe the umps didn't toss someone. Better than the last one I remember, where Akka and the Lions kicked Collingwood's A$$ about 300-2!

    Thx,

    Jay!

Well the torch has certainly been passed now. Port Adelaide have well and truly stamped themselves as a potential dynasty in the making...and I fear we've seen the last of the Brisbane Lions as a Premiership favorite...they showed just how long in the tooth they've become and how they can be taken out of a match...no contribution at all from Lynch, Brown, Voss, Pike, Black. Port bided their time, and when the time was right in the waning moments of the 3rd term stepped on the gas and didn't let off...once again, the 3rd quarter became Championship Quarter.

Just going back now to the pre-game pageantry (I was out covering college volleyball earlier this evening)...what happened to the handing down of the hall of fame guernseys? Surely the reconstruction hasn't scotched that tradition?

No, they had it with all the Toyotas coming around the oval and making a slow lap.
