    So currently as it stands:

Pot 1: Australia & Korea Republic
    Pot 2: Iran & either Saudi Arabia/Japan
Pot 3: Saudi Arabia/Japan, if Iraq qualify they come here, if they don't Bahrain enter Pot 3
Pot 4: Bahrain enter this pot if Iraq qualify, if not, then we have Uzbekistan, Korea DPR, and possibly Qatar, UAE, Kuwait or Syria depending on their groups final structure

We can end up with Australia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq in one group...nice.

I for one am all for tougher groups, simply because if a smaller weaker team beats the bigger team then they just may be better for the job.

Easy path to the WC will do no one any favors. The ones that qualify should be the best of the bunch, no matter what group they fall into.

    Agreed.

Last World cup qualifiers Saudi Arabia had Southkorea and Uzbekistan who werent upto the task. If i want to choose a country who i like to be in Saudi Arabia group is Australia because of their present form.

It would be sweet if Saudi Arabia top its group for the 5th consequetive time.

Iraq will be in pot 4.

    Here is the correct one:

    Pot 1 - Australia & South Korea
    Pot 2 - Iran & Japan/Saudi Arabia
    Pot 3 - Japan/Saudi Arabia & Bahrain
    Pot 4 - Iraq/Qatar & North Korea & UAE/Syria & Uzbekistan

You could also still end up with Uzbekistan in that group as well. The trouble then would be that the other group would be rediculously easy in comparison.

tri, i donno man... it's not like baseball or basketball playoffs where you have a series of games to determine winner.. I think the current seeding reduces statistical anomaly.

if AFC does any worse than we currently do in the World Cup, it will give them more of an excuse to reduce berths for Asia. I'm just concerned about that.

The berth reduction is an issue indeed, but then the argument is that its not really fair. Why have so many spots if we cant produce real chances? I honestly think that if we had 3 spots, we would produce better results.
The more teams we send, the poorer the quality.

Erm, Tx you have to be insane to think that all the best teams knocking eachother out is a good thing. The best teams from Asia don't often get out of the group stage, so weaker teams like the UAE will just get smacked.

I don't know what the AFC are playing at, maybe a simple look at the FIFA rankings will suffice to this piece of garbage that they call a "mechanism".

Keep it simple, seed them on their rankings and that's the end of it. As for if Iraq qualify, I'm not too bothered about getting the 5th place in the group as it means they can go to the confederations cup having finished all their matches for the next round.

For Australia, I would have the following preferences for the pots:

Pot 2: Least preferred, Iran. Most preferred, Saudi Arabia.
Pot 3: Least, Japan. Most, Bahrain.
Pot 4: Least, Iraq & Uzbekistan. Most, NK & Syria.

    Nightmare situation:

    Australia
    Iran
    Japan
    Iraq
    Uzbekistan

Best we can hope for (IMO, still some good teams):

    Australia
    Saudi Arabia
    Bahrain
    North Korea
    Syria

Got to say, that nightmare group really is a group of death.

If Qatar get through over Iraq (don't think they will) I would rather them than Nth Korea.

Syria or UAE are about the same.

I really really hope that Japan and Australia are drawn in the same group.

I think it would be such an interesting couple of games.

Also, then I could see the Japan NT play in Melbourne or Sydney.

But this 4th round is going to be the most ampped ever.

    A brilliant group would be

    Australia
    Japan
    Saudi Arabia
    Uzbekistan
    North Korea/Iraq

    That would be absolutely intense.

At least the middle east weather won't be as confronting for around half of those matches as they'll be played in the cooler months.

Good result for Australia. I would have preferred Saudi Arabia to Japan, and UAE to the Uzbeks, but otherwise this is a pretty favourable group.

If we can't qualify top 2 in this group, I don't want to see us embarrass ourselves in South Africa.
