I'm just sitting here watching Matthew McConaughey on Men in Blazers thinking how long before his team, Austin FC, blows past the Quakes? 22k seat stadium being built, Reyna as GM, presumably he's pretty well connected... ...this off season has been the worst, I'd like to be excited about Fierro and Rios v2.0, it's just not happening.
You should go on the Columbus Crew boards. They were mocking this very scene earlier today ("It's so nice of him to raise awareness for people who have been suffering from verde. It's a very serious condition."). "Fighting Verde" is a joke and a disgrace, and that Slacker is the clown-in-chief.
I looked Don, but found this (about Austin FC) instead... "...they'll start their inaugural season in MLS with a new stadium; possibly a new $45M training facility (they're supposed to break ground on it this spring). They have a head coach. A "sporting director." Overall, a reasonable staff for a club that doesn't exist yet. A major corporate sponsor that seems to be footing the bill for at least part of the training facility." -Minnman ...same old story, looks like yet another expansion team bolting out of the gate with vision and ambition.
reminds me of when the stadium formerly known as Avaya first opened and there was all that good will and money flowing and a wait list for season tickets. in struts Innocent Emeghara.
From what I understand, Austin's stadium will be built before the traffic analysis is completed -- by design, because they know it will be a clusterf*ck. You might want to dial back your excitement about that shit show.
No mention of the cost of the traffic analysis in this article from last September. . . . Another unanswered question is when the traffic study will be completed. The city of Austin requires a development to complete a traffic impact analysis when the number of vehicle trips per day generated by the development is expected to surpass 2,000. This study is typically done prior to a zoning change request or when submitting a site plan application. Under the lease deal with the city, however, Austin FC will not have to complete its traffic plan until the stadium is substantially complete. When asked about a timeline for these plans, [team investor-operator Anthony] Precourt said he did not know . . . Thread on some crucial quotes from Wednesday’s availability with Almeyda regarding #Quakes74 that haven’t been published:— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) January 24, 2020 “I’m happy with the roster. When the season ended, we talked with Jesse and our staff. San Jose’s project is much more slower than other clubs’. I have accepted being in this position, knowing that our incorporations are going to be few.”— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) January 24, 2020 “We, as you all have may seen last season, work as a team. We don’t depend on two names or a name. I think that all the signings that teams have done favor the league, helps it grow. But we prefer to bet on the youth that we have. I really believe in the work that is the academy.— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) January 24, 2020 "We have a lot of young kids on the squad that have a great future. I’m not sure if we are a candidate to win trophies before the start of the season. We want to play them, and see who the candidates or going to be. We believe in what we’re doing. We believe in our work.— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) January 24, 2020 "We know that last year we needed just a little bit more [to make playoffs]. So, we need to work a little bit more, and with unity, humility we can get there. Our intentions are to win; then there are realities.— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) January 24, 2020 https://twitter.com/soriajoelfutbol/status/1220801013331791875?s=21 https://twitter.com/soriajoelfutbol/status/1220801116650139648?s=21
Last year we saw very little of the youngsters getting senior minutes, I wonder how long it will take before they get playing time and develop.
I think Almeyda would point to TT (23), Lima (24), Lopez (19), Yueill (21) and maybe Marie (23, who got more minutes than he deserved). All ages from last year.
And yet none of those were "trained" by the Academy so we have a long way to go to prove we can manufacturer MLS caliber players
So thankful for Matias being straight forward. I drank the kool aid but I’m gonna need a lot more before I can believe this philosophy is rooted in any thing other than an owner unwilling to spend. I think I need to inject the kool aid into my veins or free base it. And remember, our academy has no obvious advantage over any other academy. In fact we very likely towards the bottom in the amount invested in the academy. I fully believe that Jesse and Matias will throw this attitude in the trash just as soon as Fisher increases the budget. At the very least increase the academy budget if we’re going to bet everything on it.
That would be a good litmus test of how successful we are in developing the youth. How much minutes do they actually get and how successful are we with them.
