now i'm going to say something that sounds insane but is really the epitome of staid good sense.

    gonalons.

he's not pogba, he's not sissoko, he's not matuidi. he may not even be cabaye. but what he is is a guy who keeps his mouth shut and plays intelligent, rugged, simple and sober midfield. so often france's MF seems to be all over the place doing everything and anything*. max is always in the same place doing the same thing - which is exactly where and what's needed.

OL is surprising everybody this season, me included, and everyone is pointing to different causes - lacazette's explosion. fékir and tolisso coming out of nowhere. jallet playing like a beast. lopes stepping into lloris' shoes so well. but the REAL foundation of what's going on is captain max. the straw that stirs the drink.

    * n'importe quoi dans le texte.

    Now this is getting interesting.

Let's see the players who are already in the team. Digne and Sagna barely play with their clubs. I think Evra and Kurzawa will be called up for the left of the defense. Sagna could maybe lose his spot in favor of Corchia who's one of the most technical talents of Lille.

Don't joke me but Umtiti could be a great bench asset as he can equally play both as a left centre defender or left back. Maybe not immediately, but is he not before Zouma now ?
Varane-Mangala should be the centre back starters. Perrin and MYM on the bench.

DM: Schneiderlin, Gonalons, Guilavogui and Mavuba are four solutions for two or three spots. Although Lille's poor results seem to keep the latter out of Deschamps' plans. Guilavogui's Wolfsburg is a brilliant Bundesliga runner-up.

CM: Probably Cabaye and Sissoko. Pogba is one of our best men. I'd want to see him as a 10. Which leads us to...

OM: Pogba, Valbuena. Payet's performance is an issue. I think a call-up is too early for Veretout, Fekir or Sanson. But Gourcuff, would he be not injured again... He and Diaby share this capacity to come back in the NT as soon as they barely hold on their two legs...

Attack: Griezmann, Valbuena, Benzema, Lacazette. Maybe Gignac if he scores a few more goals in the next weeks, but his career is made of too many ups and downs.

^ I really think Evra's time is up. We're not trying to win games like everyone else, we're trying to prepare for 2016 and there's no way he will be good enough then. It makes no sense to call him up.

I'd rather see Giroud over Gignac. Gignac is too much of a gamble and like you said, @Catel, there's just too many ups and downs when it comes to him. Giroud is a good sub and he looks good on the bench. ;)

It'll be interesting to see if Griezmann and Pogba are able to replicate their world class club form. I can't wait!

I wouldn't mind seeing Gourcuff come back. I'm still holding out hope he will be the next Zidane. I've been holding my breath for like 7 years now, so it should be any minute.

Deschamps seems to think otherwise and I'm trusting him...

    I had already forgotten him...

He wasn't good enough for United anymore (who didn't even qualify for the CL) and he will be 35. Great plan.

he's good enough for me right now. but it's 16 months until the euro. and for players of his age the end often isn't so much a slippery slope as a cliff.

but kurzawa doesn't blow my dress up high enough yet, and in reply to the two words lucas+digne i respond with these two: get+real.

one way or t'other, pat needs to be on the team at least for the locker room presence, and the help he could give one of these two... or someone else - there might be half a dozen pretenders as close to them as they are to the starting spot right now.

    I forgot Matuidi.

    Let's keep a 23 squad:

    Lloris
    Mandanda
    Ruffier

    Evra
    Kurzawa
    Varane
    Mangala
    Perrin
    Yanga Mbiwa
    Jallet
    Corchia

    Gonalons
    Schneiderlin
    Guilavogui
    Matuidi
    Sissoko
    Pogba
    Gourcuff

    Lacazette
    Benzema
    Griezmann
    Valbuena
    Payet

Cabaye out because PSG and because Laurent Blanc.
Payet nevertheless instead of Giroud because a side attacker would be missing.

    That would be neat.

There are only three TRUE world class players: Leo Messi, Alexandre Lacazette and Stéphane Mbia.
