Wonder if any of the 97’s who get drafted in MLS and impress can work there way into qualifying mix? Don’t know how many but there’s going to be a lot of 97’s in MLS rosters I feel like. But then again most of the top players in this age group are 98’s (Sargent, Pulisic, Weah, etc Euro guys most likely won’t be called in)
But MLS used to release all their players but their seems to be a reluctance bubbling up now. Atlanta is at the forefront of this but I can see others especially those in CCL doing this.
Red Bulls shopping Murillo, reportedly. That would give a big opening for Kyle Duncan when he is returned and fit from ACL surgery. https://www.onceametro.com/2019/1/2...or-michael-amir-murillo-liga-mx-europe-panama
Rumor is Olympic qualifying is next February. Good for MLS based players (though will be in preseason form), not so much for abroad based as there’s no FIFA dates in February. 🇨🇷Costs Rica has 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying next next February. Top two go to Tokyo. The 3rd Place takes on CONMEBOL in a play-off. https://t.co/01sQGY5Yov— Har Journalist (@HarJournalist) October 12, 2018
It's also good that it's in Feb 2020, like old times. If it were scheduled the same as last cycle, it would be this coming October. A February tournament gives the USSF more badly-needed time to get their shit together with the U23s.
is this men’s or women’s olympic qualifying? or are they at the same time? rodriguez & cruz are costa rica wnt players.
Crap didn’t catch that part smh. I remember seeing on Wiki (so who knows) that CR was hosting the men’s tournament. But that’s no longer there and we haven’t really heard a peep about the tournament.
We had four age eligible players play in the Bundesliga this weekend, three of them for teams in the UCL last 16. A fifth was on the bench for a Europa League team. One thing I think everyone can agree on is that we are improving a lot. Something like this shows the improvement we are making in our player production.
Individually, we have younger and better kids playing in better teams. Now, the question is "Can they play as a unit for the national team?"
It is a rather amazing development. And that 5th player is obviously Tyler Adams, who has basically just gotten on German soil and was facing the very first league game he was eligible for. I am cautiously optimistic that things are changing.
Doesn't surprise me at all, and I expect it to continue to improve. I've long contended on these boards that this is exactly what you should expect to happen when you radically increase youth investment alongside an improved DA structure and growing soccer culture. The only risk factors to our continued growth are 1) MLS failing to get an adequate ROI and deciding to decrease their investment, and to a lesser degree, 2) having some of the high-potential dual nationals poached to an unacceptable extent by countries like Mexico. All in all though, I'm extremely bullish on our prospects!
U21s in the Bundesliga: McKennie looked like a special player today. Pulisic is a world class prospect even if he is still figuring out some things as a player. Adams will fit in great in Leipzig. Sargent is in great position to get some great experience in the second half of the season. Haji looks like he'll play a part at Schalke in the second half. Soto, Mendez, Llanez could make the bench by the end of the season... Then you've got Richards, Roberts, Booth, etc. at Bayern. Considering Germany alone, the youth prospects that we have right now represent, far and away, our best crop ever.
Taitague will make his Schalke 1st team debut by the end of the season imo. Then Llanez will officially be eligible for Wolfsburg come August.
So by my account, we're up to 16 U23 age-eligible players who've been capped by the senior team: Christian Pulisic (98), M - 23 caps Tyler Adams (99), M - 9 caps Tim Weah (00), F/M - 9 caps Cameron Carter-Vickers (97), D - 7 caps Antonee Robinson (97), D - 7 caps Weston McKennie (98), M - 6 caps Josh Sargent (00), F - 6 caps Reggie Cannon (98), D - 2 caps Erik Palmer Brown (97), D - 2 caps Jonathan Amon (99), M/F - 1 cap Luca De La Torre (98), M - 1 cap Jeremy Ebobisse (97), F - 1 cap Jonathan Lewis (97), M/F - 1 cap Djordje Mihailovic (98), M - 1 cap Matthew Olosunde (98), D - 1 cap Keaton Parks (97), M - 1 cap
And one imagines at least one of the Philly CBs will be capped against CR in a few days. Hmmmmmmm................trying to think of best starting XI from this group. No goalkeeper, so I'm going to go ahead and put Ebobisse in goal!! Certainly logical. Mihailovic is growing on me. I considered starting him at the #10 and pushing Pulisic out wide (Amon to the bench). But I really like pacy wingers. ----------Sargent------------ Amon--Pulisic---Weah -----McKennie--Adams---- Robinson--EPB---CCV-Cannon ----------Ebobisse--------
A tad important if we qualify for the Olympics NEW: US Soccer has offered to create a new intercontinental tournament featuring teams from Concacaf and Conmebol in 2020. Would run concurrent with Euros. https://t.co/juxHq0dMsJ— Andrew Das (@AndrewDasNYT) February 26, 2019
According to NAC Breda's official site, there will be a US U23 camp in Spain starting March 19, in which they will play against the equivalent sides of the Netherlands and Egypt, and Erik Palmer-Brown has been called up. http://www.nac.nl/108/newsid/13142/Ook-Erik-Palmer-Brown-op-internationale-toer.html
Good find, maybe the U23 team could be with the U20 since the camp will also be in Spain and on the same date.
Assuming that Pulisic, McKennie, and Adams are with the full team, here's the guys I would want to get a look at: Strikers: Sargent, Ebobisse, Wright Wingers: Saucedo, Lewis, Sabbi, Weah, Akale, Perez Midfielders: LDLT, Mihailovic, Parks, Yueill, Lindley, Zelalem, Williamson, Jones Defenders: Robinson, Acosta, EPB, CCV, Glad, Trusty, Robinson, Olosunde, Cannon, Lennon, Duncan, Fossey Goalies: Klinsmann, Marcinkowski, Silva, Vom Steeg
