Worst thing about these games is when you can hear the players shouting. IDK whether it’s because of mic placement or lack of ambient fan noise. When you only have one eye on the game it’s misleading when you hear a lot of players shouting and there’s nothing really going on.
As soon as that corner was given up off an unforced error, I knew a goal was going to happen. It was inevitable.
The first match wasn't actually filled to capacity either and it looked full. The womens game and popularity arguments are kind of weird. It is getting more popular. At the same time a lot of it is tribal/club/nationalistic more than the womens game itself. It's why womens teams that have no mens teams in Europe don't exactly do well or have the large crowds that some of the "derbys" do. The same thing happened it Mexico and with US college sports. A couple years ago when the WNT CBA was made public, I spent some time going through FIFA WC, US Soccer, and the CBAs. When it comes to tv rights, the WWC is bundled with the mens, but this might be the first WC where a lot of countries opt to show the WWC. In the past, a lot of countries past or they had a satelite provider like bein hold the rights. As I told someone, the Vatican had to get the rights for the Mens World Cup. There is some nuance in that FIFA gets the money for the rights to all FIFA tournaments. Although, I did see who my "allies" were in making this argument and quickly realized i am not one of them. I would go to the WNT forum, but I don't think they like me after my Alex Morgan is the 4th best forward of her age group take. Or my Carli Lloyd take that she is the reason the WNT wins and loses games because she doesn't play defense and basically cherry picks leaving the DM of the game to make a lot of plays. Who should be the real MVP.
I wish they'd stop using the phrase "unnatural position." To me that means bending your elbow the wrong way or something.
I shudder to think how the US team would enter while trying to emulate something like this. 1137388890040557568 is not a valid tweet id
I didn't see the first, but the second was a stonewall penalty. Going studs up into the thigh with a stiff leg is a foul every time. It should have been a straight red. That was a really unnatural-looking clearance.
But she didn’t “go” into the Spain player’s thigh, she we falling alway and the Spanish player came forward into the contact.
There's no reason for her leg to continue to be extended like that. It was dangerous play and was punished accordingly.
Ugh, ten minutes of waiting for a clip of the own goal, and I'm giving up. One thing that frustrates me about the difference between the way men and women's sports are covered is the way they ignore "bad" things. FoxSoccer and FIFA have barely mentioned the third goal on twitter because I guess it's not "positive". Norway had a dream first half! An own goal from Nigeria's Osinachi Ohale made it 3-0 in the first half. pic.twitter.com/LvDWgd39vj— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 8, 2019
