This seems to pop up every few years. FIFA doesn't care and Jeff Kessler stays employed. Nothing new.

I have no problem paying the women the same if the contracts go away. If Rapinoe wants the same pay as Rowe she should be willing to accept the same amount of job security.

Honest question: How would it get us kicked out of the World Cup? Surely FIFA isn't that corrupt.

I'm going to take a wild stab here and make a stupid guess that will likely be completely wrong, but...

I'm gonna guess FIFAs TV deal with the US for the Women's Worls Cup is far and away their most lucrative, and there is no way they would every kick the US out of it.

They don't like lawsuits involving federations.

Well, that's likely true.... But FIFA might make the threat.

Not that I expect the US to be in it very long. Mind you, we should get out of the group stage--our group is weak. But I do not like the direction of the team.

    No.

FIFA would have a holy conniption if USSF took the players to court. But they recognize that USSF can't prevent players from suing the federation.Totally different case.

Look, this suit is nothing short of disgraceful.

Just before Brazil, the US Women signed a CBA with USSF. In it they specifically waived the kind of deal the men get in return for their guaranteed salaries. In some ways, they make out better than the men in terms of travel and accommodations.

They don't care. They have decided they want the guaranteed salaries AND they want the big bonuses that the men get, which is wildly unfair. They're basically asking for a much BETTER deal than the men get,

Meanwhile, the math stays the same: FIFA gave USSF provided the mens teams with $400 million in bonus money for the players based on, you know, the fact that the men EARNED IT through TV and such from the World Cup.

But FIFA gave the women $30 million, which was roughly $30million more than their tournament actually made. It was charity, pure and simple. The WWC doesn't make a dime.

The US women don't care. They want better travel deals, better per dieums, better pay then the men, guaranteed money which the men do not get AND then they want equal bonuses on top of it.

How did the US men earn big bucks from the world cup? Is the FIFA payment to USSF based on US tv ratings or sales? Performance in qualifiers? Something else?

When I said "teams" I meant the total payout to all. The US got a cut of the total. Teams in the finals get more of course.

Holy shit everyone, can't believe I have to say this again:

Stop referring to women as (insert many different expletives and insults). Seriously, fvcking stop.

This is the second time I've had to say this. Next person to do it is getting a yellow card. Stop sounding like a bunch of misogynistic cranky fvckers.

    Stop.

What brought this on? I don't see any women described with insults or expletives in this thread.

I take your point and I try to avoid such language myself. But, you gotta admit that the Lady Nats aren't helping their case much....

In case you missed it, as th USWNT descends further and further into pure farce, the players were allowed to wear whatever names they chose last Saturday to honor "influential and iconic" women.

No, I am not making this up.

    Included were:

    Abby Dahlkamper - Jennifer Lawrence
    Julie Ertz - Carrie Underwood
    Ashlyn Harris - Cardi B
    Mallory Pugh - Beyonce
    Emily Sonnet - Tina Fey
Emily Fox - Elena Della Donne

USSF really ought to pretend that there are some grownups in charge. But they don't have the balls.

But since equality in allthings is the theme here, the men should be allowed the same privilege.

    Will Trapp - Carrot Top
    Gyassi Zardes - Mitch McConnell
    Michael Bradley - Axel Rose
    Christian Pulisic - Marlon Brando

I have to stop. I need a drink.

Curious. No doubt she was a phenomenal GK but her own teammates seemed to have disdain for her. I wonder how she'll be portrayed.
