The 2019 U.S. Open Cup local qualifying tournament schedule is out.

    https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...-pairings-first-second-qualifying-round-games

94 amateur and other non-PDL/NPSL teams have entered the qualifying tournament. There will be at least 3 (and possibly 4) rounds of this tournament this fall/next spring to whittle that down to the teams that will advance to the 2019 U.S. Open Cup proper. The exact number is TBD. Last year 14 teams qualified out of this tournament but one was disqualified so only 13 participated in the 2018 Open Cup tournament.

NOTE: Bavarian SC (Glendale, WI), the 2018 U.S. Adult Soccer Association (USASA) National Amateur Cup champion has automatically qualified for the 2019 U.S. Open Cup. This is a new provision.

Another change, there are 7 Regions this year.

    94 teams into 7 regions:

    Northeast Region - 16 teams
    Mid-Atlantic Region - 14 teams
    Southeast Region - 13 teams
    Central Region - 13 teams
    Mountain Region - 12 teams
Southern California Region - 15 teams
    West Region - 11 teams

They could have done this in six regions of 15 or 16 teams although the geography would have gotten a little trickier. It sure looks like 2 teams moving on from each region for a total of 14 qualifiers. It is hard to imagine that they would actually use that 4th round to get down to fewer than that but I guess we'll have to wait and see how many teams are in the actual Open Cup tournament.

Let's see where we might be for the 2019 tournament.

    PLS Divisions
MLS - 21 U.S.-based teams with Cincinnati joining the current 20.
USL - 21 U.S.-based teams carrying over from last year with Cincy out. Adding 6 new non-MLS2 teams which brings the total to 27. We'll see if any of the current Open Cup-eligible teams drop down to USL D3.
USL D3 - 5 eligible teams at the moment. That number should get closer to 9 by the time they start.
NISA - this new league is apparently going to file to start in 2019 and will be seeking Division 3 sanctioning. Number of teams? Let's say 8. I believe that is the minimum for sanctioning.

Total: 57 teams, maybe 65 with NISA?

    Open Division:
NPSL-Pro (or whatever name they wind up with) - It will be interesting to see how the USSF handles them if it gets going. They are apparently going to maintain USASA sanctioning to stay out of the Professional League Standards of Division 1-3. I guess USSF will just consider it another Open Division league but how will they be put into the Open Cup? Will they be part of the NPSL allotment?
NPSL - 19 teams last year plus the 3 that were added late. This year?
PDL - 15 teams last year. This year?
Local Qualifying tournament - 14 teams?

Total: At least 48 teams, maybe more.

So we could be looking at 110 teams or so. It will be an interesting winter watching all of this unfold.

Typically the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup tournament.

This is the qualifying tournament which has its own rounds.

Thanks man! I think I may actually try to get out to one of these Mid-Atlantic region games, if I can find where they are.

The link in the first post has the actual venue for each game. I just don't include that in my posts.

Right. There were 3 rounds in the qualifying tournament last year, all of which were in the Fall.

The U.S. Open Cup proper usually starts with rounds 1, 2, and 3 in May and then Round 4 when the MLS teams join is in June.

That may change this year. The number of teams is increasing so the USSF is going to have to reorganize the tournament at some point.
