Congrats Ukraine. They played well and have some good young exciting players. That was a soft call on Scamacca to disallow the goal however.
We may be hard done by the dismissal of Popov. Is Safronov enough of substitution for Popov in the center of our defense? I doubt it.
It was a foul. Even if it appeared soft it was the right call. Most refs don't usually call that late in a match but welcome to the future. VAR is always watching.
watch the replay again... defender goes down.. and is looking for a foul holding his right cheek when "contact" was made on his left side of his face LOL. of course he's faking
The contact was obvious. it was done by the arm all across the bottom side of the face. Suggesting that there was no contact is silly. If you want to suggest that the foul was soft - I will give you that. But contact was there and the foul was there, no matter how soft it was.
In fact, upon review, it seems that this foul was worse than Popov's foul, for which he got the second yellow/red card. Popov's contact was glancing, Scamakka's foul was direct, elbow into the bottom part of Bondar's face.
fair enough.. we agree to disagree on that one.. he's holding the wrong side of his face where the primary contact occurs. Football is a game with some physical contact to be expected... IMO as well the red card shouldn't have been given either to Ukraine (2nd yellow) as that was soft too
South Korea! Was really surprised to see that. Not just the win but South Korea outplayed them by far. If they didn't take shots from outside the box and passed to the wide open runners they might have 1 or 2 more.
Congrats to Korea! Once again , not the most aesthetically pleasing team to watch but their discipline and tactics are effective.
I don't even think most of the fans of Ukraine and Korea thought they were good enough for the Final. This has been a very even tournament.
Sometimes I honestly enjoy the u20 more than the actual world cup. There's so much more parity and you never know who is going to make an incredible run.
Well as someone who doesn't like seeing the same 5 teams always win, yeah it can be a pretty fun tournament
Kinda. But even in College basketball you usually have a blue blood team win it all. Very rarely do the underdogs make it to the Final.
Fair enough. That's why I used the phrase "sometimes." The atmosphere and the hype around the senior World Cup is obviously miles better and the 32 team format is way better than 24 (though I know they're getting rid of it), but I can't help but love seeing the runs made by teams like Ghana and South Korea in this tournament And then knowing that by the time the next edition comes around, the teams will be entirely different and the mystery will be back again.
Great stuff from Ecuador yesterday vs Italy. 1-0 for bronze medal. Penalty kick saved, and goal in extra-time. Looking forward to see which youngsters are picked by foreign clubs during the next 12 months.
