We lack an impact sub off the bench. If Robinho can be that player than he is a solid signing. Unfortunately this rings of past ownership level ambition. Haslam needs to bring in an impact level known name signing to bring back the fans. I’m sure their looking and it’s in the works.
It’s my opinion, Gregg started Martinez early last season in the hopes he would make the Panama World Cup roster. If he showed well there, he was as good as sold on. Martinez didn’t make the roster and we never saw much of him after that. It was a gamble by ggg with a lot of upside and not much downside. No loss to us really.
I might be mistaken but I remember him being connected to us like a year ago or something. So hes possibly been on their board of targets for a while. Now, with our need glaringly apparent for another option at winger....its conceivable Onstad (or whoever) ran it by Porter (or whoever) and they pulled the trigger. New ownership has already been making decisions anyway so its believable our new coach is already inserting his input to the interim GM. I could see Onstad joining up with Berhalter once it's time for the USMNT to get started, and just holding down the fort til Ali Curtis (or whoever) takes over.
I've said similar. Not to this specificity. But I do think part of Gregg's plan was to bring on (fringe) national team players in the hopes of eventually selling them on. It's part of the reason I think he brought in Mensah. It doesn't help to explain Santos though
Que Ceara Ceara? Apologies for that. Perhaps with the Steffen sale proceeds not coming until summer, our big impact wing is not coming until then either? Gives us a look at Robinho & the new manager a shot to rehabilitate Meram/Santos. Or them a chance to boost trade value.
A little tongue in cheek, there, TrueCrew? While the need is glaring, we've actually heard nothing from the club that implies they're (not even sure who "they" would be at this point) looking for a "big impact wing" signing during the winter transfer window, right? Good lord, I can't wait until we get an official ownership announcement. Being caught in the organizational doldrums is pretty anxiety provoking. And kinda boring.
🚨 NEWS 🚨#CrewSC has acquired Milton Valenzuela on a permanent transfer from @CANOBoficial_en as a Young Designated Player! Welcome back, Milton! 🖤💛➡️ https://t.co/jcDfIRSU5J pic.twitter.com/UXVXzT09RT— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) December 21, 2018 Milton is permanently ours.
A young DP still counts against the 3 DP limit, right? There was some discussion a few months ago about MLS reducing the number of DPs to 2 per team and adding more allocation money. Did that happen?
Who the hell knows? There's so many twists, turns, Garber bucks, half allocation nonsense that the rules mean nothing.
I was hoping he would not be signed/designated a DP. But the article says he will. Pipa & Santos the other two. I think we have a couple more guys making DP money that we have to buy down with Garberbucks (Mensah, Zardes, maybe Meram). We could always add Santos to the list if we have the GBs.
Who knows when we'll see the 2019 roster rules. The 2018 rules make it clear that young DPs counted against the max of three DPs you can have on a team, last year.
Santos is on like $750k. He could be bought down easy enough. I believe we have like $2.8M in TAM and another $2.8M in discretionary TAM if ownership wants to use it. Atlanta doesn’t have 10 high priced players because they go low budget. You gotta spend to compete.
