So he failed a drug test before entering the league and so MLS already have them money for the transfer ?
Meh. He’s alright, 7 goals and 3 assists, on $400k. Looking at who they protected, I can see why he’s exposed. Not saying I would have done it, but I can understand why certain players were protected over him.
I agree that he’s alright. I think they’re hoping he is not picked up because of his contract. If I recall, he was their second highest goal scorer this season.
Sure. Now that Heath is both coach and GM, I wonder what changes he will make. They have Toye and Molino as their front two attackers, Lod and a returning Ibarra on the left, then Finlay on the right. Metanire is a beast on that side attacking from RB. I wonder if they might be looking for an inverted winger on that side instead, and if that is the case, does Minnesota have the cap space to put a $400k player on the bench? Also, their flop DP striker Rodriguez is still there for now, though with the emergence of Toye they will probably look to sell him and replace with a cheaper backup type player. They’ve made a few bad signing, so their cap is probably fvcked to a certain extent. With the opaqueness that is MLS finances, it’s hard to say.
Looking at the list of players available, players I'd seriously take a look at are: Nico Gaitan (Chicago) Waylon Francis (Columbus) Hector Jimenez (Columbus) Favio Alvarez (LAG) Ethan Finlay (Minnesota) Bobby Shuttleworth (Minnesota) Anthony Jackson-Hamel (Montreal) Maxi Urruti (Montreal) Ben Sweat (NYCFC) Joao Plata (RSL) Kelyn Rowe (RSL) Rodney Wallace (SKC)
I doubt that we lose Argudo. Expansion teams usually dont go for projects. I think you're dead right about Francis and Jimenez, who are both plug and play. Tell them what you want, pat them on the ass and off they go. Personally I'm very worried about losing Jimenez. Experienced, versatile and can be a solid contributor for years. Francis maybe, but hes not an answer long term. Hes steady but hes no Gino Padula. From day one you'll be looking around for an upgrade.
Jimenez would be a tough one to lose. He’s not going to be a difference maker for any team but the guy can play 4 or 5 different positions without you being worried about him being there.
Occasionally in the past teams have been forced by the numbers to expose a guy or two they were desperate not to lose, and they swung a deal.with the expansion team for some Garberbux or a Superdraft pick in return for not taking him. Doesnt work as well with 2 teams drafting though; gotta make 2 deals. Gets pricey.
I agree, though you really only see his value when he's forced into the lineup due to injury, suspension, etc. Last year's insane number of injuries made Hector a lot more visible than he normally would have been. He played a thousand more minutes last year than he did the year before. Anyway, I'd hate to lose him, too. But he is now thirty one, which is kinda hard to believe. It would suck, but the team could certainly adjust.
I'm wondering if we already have a "wink wink" agreement with Nashville for the Accam trade and only need to do one for Inter Milan, I mean, Miami.
Sounds like the All-Star game next year will change, no more big European club teams. MLS all-stars will be playing the Liga MX all-stars.
BTW, Miami and Nashville have had their first home games announced.... Miami on Mar 14 vs the Galaxy and Nashville on Feb 29 vs Atlanta. I'd guess it can't be that far to announcing the first games for all of the teams next season.
I'm obsessed with this sort of thing, but what I see are games in the effing winter where teams that could/should be hosting (LAG and ATL) are instead playing on the road. Dee better damned well resist the shitty front-loaded home schedule we (and other teams like Chicago) played last year.
Why would LA hosting Miami be better?? It's also likely that LA has a home game before they play Miami--maybe two--given when Nashville starts (two weeks earlier).
They've been trickling these games out once per week or so. We heard about the Fire's opener a few weeks ago. Then we heard about Miami's opener, and now they just announced Nashville's. Those are the only 3 teams with any sort of reason for a special announcement, so hopefully we'll get a full slate of home openers for everyone else later this week or next week.
