Complete speculation on my behalf but Bjorn Maars Johnsen is a candidate the team should look at for help up top. He is American born so he would not require an international spot. He needs a team to play for this year and DC United needs someone that can score goals. 6 goals for AZ last year and 5 in 13 for Norway. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/n...ion-to-land-27-y-o-international-striker/amp/ Realistically our roster hampers player acquisition so it seems advantageous to find an American overseas that is willing to play in MLS.
But is he willing to be a back up? Or are you dropping someone out of the starting XI? Or are would we change formations?
Realistically, he has been a backup most of his career and he is in need of a home so I don't see why he would not backup. The bigger question is would Olsen sub him in before the 85th minute.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/07/17/report-sevilla-pushing-sign-dc-uniteds-luciano-acosta He's been bad this year. He would leave on a free transfer in the winter. He has looked disinterested at best for months now. You sell. Now. If anyone is willing to pay anything for him.
Especially after the way Rodriguez & Arriola stepped up last night. If he stays, Olsen should seriously consider using him only as a second half sub against Atlanta this weekend.
Can we make a transfer for Bobby Wood? I mean technically. Is he available and cheap enough to get? He is 28 next year and a bit beaten up but similar to Aaron Johansson. I think he can help us. James
Wood is on $4M or so after the conversion a year we certainly can't afford him as a transfer. I don't think HSV has much hope in him so maybe a loan could be worked out but who knows how much salary we'd have to pick up.
Both of those guys are clearly capable and Arriola has certainly shown it consistently, but it was Cincy... one of the worst teams in the league. Don't get too excited. Let's see the team continue to attack well and finish well. It did both the other night, but they haven't done so consistently in a long time.
Apparently there is a national Captain Morgan commercial featuring "fans" dressed up in DC United gear and singing through a liquor store. Apparently it was typecast
Saw it as I started watching the game on FS1 between Orlando and Red Bulls, so it definitely wasn't local market.
I've seen this one once - after first rewinding and enjoying it again, I then wondered if these were real fans Captain and Ginger, he'll have a Captain and Giiiiinger
A little breaking #DCU news for you. I've learned that United has received an offer for Luciano Acosta. I've got details on the club, the fee they've been offered and more on @TheAthleticSCCR: https://t.co/tvKEzKZaZr— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) July 22, 2019 Offer is $3M plus more for incentives from Saudi club Al Ahli
Easy to say but Acosta has to agree, and no matter what the offer is he would know that he is sacrificing the prime of his athletic career for a payday (and I'm not judging that, btw; many of us would love to have that option). But if he goes to Saudi Arabia for 4 years or so at age 25 he'll almost certainly never play for a big (or even moderately big) club in Europe or for his national team. There's no shame in cashing in but it goes against the competitive instincts to play at the highest level possible that of most top athletes have. It's not like DCU's offer is chump change, either ($2.5M/year x 4).
Sources tell CBS Sports that numerous teams in Europe, including the UK, want #USMNT winger Paul Arriola. The DC United man is also wanted by some big Liga MX clubs. Would count as domestic player in 🇲🇽.— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) July 23, 2019 Interesting times ahead.
