Which brings up the question of spring practice and games. I know their keeper coach might step in for some 7v7 at practice, but what happens when they get to their spring games and BB is banged up. Not ideal planning on Marks part but Im sure he has a plan to make it work. With his latest accomplishments it wouldnt surprise me if he were able to woo a decent keeper as a transfer, but my guess is if that were to happen it already would have
There is a Keeper that needs to transfer to FSU. It wouldn't require much of a change in the wardrobe department, and there is a good chance it comes with a CC appearance. Just sayin'
Don't get me wrong. I love Pav and what she did as a true Frosh. I look forward to the 2nd year leap forward in skills, confidence and overall play. She played on the same HS team as Newton and I believe Newton was 2 time Fl Times Union POTY. That is why I said "Better than Pav?" Where will she play? I'm assuming Madril takes Kuikka's place. If true, then since Mark doesn't sub the back line, that leaves Patten, Robbins, Lynch (health?) Villalobos, Newton and 1 of Nesbeth and Nighswonger fighting for PT at wide midfielder. Of course their is some time to be had at forward and subbing for Deyna and Yujie.

Wow! Great news! It'll be interesting to see if Mark goes against his history and actually plays 2 GKers. In the past he has subbed GKers about as often as he does the back line.
I'll ask again. Who here thinks Mark will play 2 GKers? I for one, do not, at least not in key games.
I don't think so. CJ didn't return to be a back up either. Brooke may be FSU's gk going forward, but with the the confidence gained by Jeffers and the confidence shown by Mark, forward could be a season from now.
Brooke starting, in my opinion, is not as much a given as it was last season. CJ has proven she can be first choice.
I agree, but still believe Brooke is the better choice if healthy. All of our GKers have the luxury of playing behind a stellar defense. I believe between Stanford and UNC in the CC there were 3 SOG. That is great! Brooke is just a better athlete and more aggressive in coming out for the ball. CJ is a luxury to have as a backup. That said, whomever Mark chooses, I'm OK with!
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for taking the time to actually convey them. I was just being lazy in not doing so.
CJ did a very fine job when she came in (not counting the first 5 minutes) but Mark had to adjust the team to suit her. In the tournament games, even when FSU had the ball deep in the opponent's half, CJ was standing on the edge of her 6-yard-box. Her starting position was never higher than that. Every other keeper in the known universe would be at the edge of or well outside her eighteen (Leshnak in the title game was often 10-15 yards outside her box). I don't know if it was her ankles, or they just didn't want her dealing with balls outside the box with her feet, but that left a huge space between her and Malia and Kuikka, which forced them to play a bit deeper and drop off earlier in transition than when BB was in goal. It also forced CJ to make some very late dashes off her line to narrowly claim through balls that would've been easily intercepted by a keeper in a more traditional, modern starting position. I have zero insight, but would guess Mark would prefer to not have to do this, if he has a choice.
You seem to know whereof you speak. You obviously know the game much more indepth than do I. That said, I think we reached the same conclusion. Health being equal, Brooke is the better choice at this time.
This me patiently waiting for the most recent natty to bear fruit on the recruiting trail. Yeah. Patience probably isn't my greatest virtue. It's got to help right? One of my problems (there are many) is that the only metric I can look at is TDS player rankings. It doesn't include internationals, and we usually get one top 25 domestic at most. Oh well, back to waiting.
