It is the practical solution, but sets a precedent I could see followed, especially by national teams.

Stop me if you heard this story before: Conmebol has to move the Copa Libertadores Final to an alternate venue :ROFLMAO:

A Columbian team played youths at home while they were in Japan, so this has happened before.

It's only a wonder of how many from the League Cup game will travel to Doha immediately afterwards.

Don't they have to register a team for this tournament? Like a 23 man list or something like that... can they just leave players behind and have them join later? I've rearranged my travel plans for this so if they bring a B-squad I swear I'll go bezerk...

My assumption was the League Cup will get the B-team treatment.

    For shame - you see this @sidspaceman ? :D

It would have to be something like that, any first-team members left behind for the League Cup match would have to already be on the official squad, with Liverpool then playing the CWC semifinal short-handed.

More like C-treatment as they'd be bringing a 23 man squad to Qatar...

Fans left out of pocket as Conmebol switches Copa Libertadores final from Santiago to Lima:
    http://www.insideworldfootball.com/...itches-copa-libertadores-final-santiago-lima/

Clearly the wishes of the fans and clubs were considered.

If CONMEBOL was still on talking terms with CONCACAF they would have used this as an excuse to have the first Libertadores final in Miami.

First leg of the ACL final in about two hours. Can Al Hilal finally wrestle a title to West Asia? It would be the first since 2011.

Al Hilal - Urawa Reds 1:0

Well deserved but not nearly decisive enough from Hilal's perspective. They were all over Urawa and former MLS demigod Giovinco had enough chances to win two or three matches. He simply must do better. This series could be effectively over already. Instead there is all to play for.

    Extended highlights to follow.

An Al Hilal victory would also, for the first time, mean an "Arab" CWC. That is the first time the Asian, African and Host spots are occupied by clubs from the Arab world.

Of course Al Hilal won't enjoy any "home" support in the stands. Quite the opposite given the blockade. :D

Here's hoping Liverpool manages to maintain their nine-point cushion over ManCity heading into Qatar 2019. Would be nice if not every second sentence in English CWC coverage ties the league success/failure to the time spent in Doha.

To be fair , CONMEBOL got unlucky here . A move to Uruguay would have been better for both fan bases in terms of travel though . I would hope there is a good reason that wasn’t chosen . There is a bus service from Rio to Lima ... it “only” takes 5 days . And that’s if you’re lucky because many things can happen on the way extending the trip 2 or more days .

A return to 2 leg final would be an admission of failure . So I am sure they’d want to stay away from that idea .

Fifa facing scrutiny after exposing hundreds of fans to criminal prosecution for attending Qatar World Cup dress rehearsal (CWC):

Interesting piece by the Independent on the blockade. Really hope Qatar and the rest of the GCC can work things out by the 2020 CWC and if not the 2022 World Cup. Perhaps a positive sign is that the UAE, Saudi and Bahrain have decided to participate in the upcoming Gulf Cup after all.

Huh? I'm all for criticizing FIFA, Qatar 2022 and the like but how is this their fault that people buying tickets for an event in another country don't do some simple research to inquire about visa/entry policies of that country beforehand? And are there really after 2 and a half years of blockade & constant propaganda people who don't know they aren't allowed to visit Qatar? Really? Also, the ban is not coming from Qatar or FIFA. As far as I know expats and locals from UAE, Saudi and Bahrain are more than welcome here from the Qatar end, it's their respective countries that are enforcing the ban. I'm able to buy tickets to events in UAE all the time despite I guess it technically being illegal for me to go so this just seems a silly criticism in my opinion.

Yes... .big. big news regarding the Gulf Cup! One that has caught me off guard as the tournament was due to start in about 9 days and I had my tickets already to go for the opening and final match... and then all of the sudden... poof! 3 new teams entering and a totally new tournament! A lot of confusion as to which tickets are valid what's happening now as far as tickets sales are concerned... but no one seems bothered by that as it's being massively celebrated here...will be a better tournament definitely.. hoping to sneak a final ticket (again) if I can....

Al-Hilal players to arrive in Tokyo on Sunday for ACL final second leg:
    https://www.arabnews.com/node/1585001/sport

So numerous Hilal fans will be in 8,700 km far away Tokyo and zero will in Doha, a mere 500 km away. (If Hilal win)

All ok in Lima for the Libertadores?

It's been very quiet around the CAS, so I guess Esperance's participation is safe.

Interesting... how does this work exactly with the World Cup qualifiers and Gulf Cup kicking off next Tuesday? Will Al Hilal players not being playing in the Gulf Cup, joining at a later date, or will Saudi just be sending a B-team to the Gulf Cup?

Ahh - I see the Saudis get the bye this round (5 team WCQ groups), so the Al Hilal players were taken out for the Paraguay friendly tomorrow... still interested to know if they will play in the Gulf Cup....
