Sounds like a familiar situation elsewhere.
Maybe the PGMOL should take notice of this!

Explain how this goal stood in Spain, with VAR.

Obviously I’ve made clear I think the law change is dumb and I’d be happy if this wasn’t punishable. But, c’mon.

It hit his hand/arm twice. the second hit negated the first so it becomes a 'zero' hand ball.:D

Ha, I came here seeking help understanding this decision. I watched this match with someone who knows and enjoys soccer but isn’t up to date on all the laws. I thought I did a decent job explaining why under the current laws they were going to waive off the goal, and then they restarted with a kickoff.

Because the player who “handled” didn’t create the GSO? That works with the language of Law 12, but not the further explanation.

Some interesting scenes from top games in Greece handled by top UEFA referees in the last weeks:

PAOK Thessaloníki - AEK Athína, Orel Grinfeld (Roi Reinschreiber)

    55' Penalty (holding) to PAOK
75' Penalty (tripping) to AEK? No VAR intervention
83' Penalty (handling) to AEK? No VAR intervention
+91' Red Card (DOGSO) to AEK no.23
    +94' 2nd Yellow Card (SPA/LoR) to AEK no.10

Olympiakòs Pireás - Panathinaïkòs, Mattias Gestranius (Anastásios Sidirópoulos)

9' Penalty (tripping) to Panathinaïkòs? After On-Field Review, referee confirmed play on
51' Penalty (tripping) to Panathinaïkòs? After On-Field Review, referee confirmed play on

AEK Athína - Olympiakós Pireás, Matej Jug (Stéfanos Koumparákis)

1' Careless, Reckless or Violent Conduct? No foul given
85' 2nd Yellow Card (reckless) AEK no.8; management
+91' Follow-Through SFP incident - foul given, no sanction

Jorge Sousa, Stephan Klossner, José María Sánchez Martínez, Slavko Vinčić and Sascha Stegemann have too handled games there this season; Gestranius also handled a further game.

By my calculations, there should be nine more foreign-officiated matches (assuming last Thessaloníki Derby is refereed by a Greek and Atrómitos don't get one). Last two PAOK - Olympiakós games are ones to watch out for - likely they will decide the championship and should get top Elite referees.

Maybe you’re seeing this wrong? The defender is the one sent off for DOGSO, not the attacker for colliding with the GK. The defender makes an attempt for the ball and catches the player outside the PA.

It seems like to me that the white player goes down first than the player who got him and got sent off.

I don't see 100% contact on his fault to be honest.

White went down first because Yellow tripped him during an OGSO.

Watch the slow replay portions starting at 0:51 & 0:59... Just after White #47 plays the ball, Yellow #23's left shin goes into White's right shin and appears to cause White to lose his balance and start falling. Yellow's contact came from slightly behind/side and his left foot turned/pointed towards White - that tells me Yellow was not simply running alongside his opponent.

My apologies if that's not what you were asking.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread - I didn't see a better one (and it's probably not worth a new thread), but it's a really nice piece of refereeing and communication in a situation that wouldn't seem to come up very often.
