Yeah, but more of a family inside joke. My ex-wife's family were from the West side. My relatives have been on the East side for over 100 years. Certain members of other side weren't exactly comfortable navigating the East side vibe.
I would be happy if they just reopened the Alum Rock Ave entrance. Though I live within walking distance if I was looking for a good hike, the closing of that access about tripled the time to drive there.
As (I suppose) a "Westie" I have no qualms about going to places like Alum Rock or any other place on the shytehole side of San Jose. Kidding! Now the north side, that's a different story altogether.
The US networks want US teams so that they have two US home markets to count in the ratings. All of TFC's games are nationally televised in Canada.
Because they are in a different nation! In all seriousness I'm surprised too but there is a separate MLS TV contract with TSN (I think) which like the Espn of Canada and their games are heavily weighted to the Canandian teams. I recall reading that the fairly meager MLS national TV ratings rely on the markets of the teams in the game a lot. So for example if New York is playing Los Angeles sizable percentage of the viewers are people in New York and Los Angeles. Naturally, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal or score a complete zero in that regard. So I think that's why they're not on there a lot, even though they are a marquee team.
I have no idea what is being discussed here, but this photo looks like it's straight out of the great Peter Weir film Picnic at Hanging Rock
"Alum Rock Park is California's oldest municipal park and occupies 720 acres within Alum Rock Canyon just east of downtown San Jose. Though in the late 1800s it held many commercial attractions, including an aviary, a restaurant, a carousel and a zoo, today the park has been returned to a more natural state and most of these man-made structures are gone." https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/alum-rock-park-san-jose-ca/ The specific photo I posted earlier is from the History San Jose collection and was used on the exhibit poster promoting an historical exhibit on San Jose parks a few years ago. I have a framed copy of the poster in my guest room, which is adorned by an eclectic array of San Jose images, including the sheet music from Dionne Warwick's song and a starting line up photo from the 2009 edition of the Quakes.
Will anyone be travelling to Dallas for the match on August 4th? It’s far enough in advance for me to schedule time off. Hopefully this might be the year/season i return home to watch a home match. I haven’t been to a Quakes home match since the spring of 1980. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Holy Moly!! Good luck to you lad. I'm not going to Tejas, sorry. Hoping to get down to a couple of games in August this year, but nothing firm about that yet. I do plan to catch our boys up here in Portlandia this season. Looking forward to it. Maybe see Reno too, when they play T2. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Who knows, maybe I can swing a trip to the shores of the Willamette, see my family and we can catch a game, like back in ‘08 when we watched ptfc play Cleveland. If you remember.
