Dempsey announces his retirement, effective immediately. https://www.soundersfc.com/post/2018/08/29/clint-dempsey-announces-retirement-professional-soccer
what a shame he didn't get a farewell tour. Top 3 player in US history that's for sure. One the most competitive ever as well. A joy to watch.
Yeah... It was pretty obvious that when the Sounders extended him only a year that this was going to be his final year. It's too bad they didn't make that announcement then so they could do a tour like they did with Donovan.
I maintain that your ownership is definitely worse for refusing to spend and do what they are perfectly capable of. Complete indifference is always worse than inability.
I'm not aware that he has made an announcement since he was dropped by Leon, and I sort of have a feeling that he's not going to make an announcement. Considering that he has unretired following the last two announcements, people might not take a third announcement seriously, so he may decide to simply not play anymore but not say anything about it (except to his wife, I guess). All that is my own speculation, however. I'm just guessing.
SKC has announced contract extensions signed with Matt Besler, Roger Espinoza, and Ilie Sanchez. It is expected they will also announce an extension with Graham Zusi. Besler, Zusi, and Espinoza's contracts were all expiring at the end of this year; Ilie's was not set to expire until the end of 2019 but he has performed so well that they got him an extension early. I like getting this business done and out of the way before the playoffs so everyone can be focused. Even though all of Besler, Espinoza, and Zusi are over 30, they are still playing at a very high level and leading either the team or the league in various categories. Ilie has been phenomenal and I'm happy to see him stay as long as possible.
Salt Lake has signed out-of-contract defender Nedum Onuoha - rumored for several weeks at least. We figured he was coming when several RSL players started following him on Twitter (a creepy new way to seek confirmation via stalking). He confirmed it in a BBC interview here - waiting on the visa. He suggests in the interview that they should shorten the headline to "Onuoha leaves QPR for Real" and that would be fine with him. Came up through the Manchester City academy, played with them and Sunderland in the Premiership, and then QPR in the Championship for the past five years.
His contract expired in the offseason, so it is sort of QPR to RSL. And while the paperwork is in, he apparently doesn't have a visa yet so withthe roster freeze deadline tomorrow (I think), it may be this year, may be next,

A lot of Argentinian sources are claiming that Atlanta are negotiating with River Plate to buy Pity Martinez if they sell Almirón.
Looks like Almiron is going to Arsenal in the winter... Atlanta United chief drops major hint Arsenal will sign Miguel Almiron in £11m deal Arsenal could be set to sign MLS star Miguel Almiron in a surprise £11million deal this January, with the president of Atlanta United confirming the attacking midfielder will move to the Premier League. The Paraguayan No.10 has been sensational since moving to the United States, scoring 12 times and laying on 11 further assists for an attack-minded Atlanta outfit this season. And according to FOX Deportes USA, the north Londoners have scouted the 24-year-old extensively and have agreed to pay £11m to sign him in January. I don't really see how Almiron fits into Arsenal's setup unless Ozil is on his way out or Emery is planning a big tactical switch in January. Both possible, I guess.
Almiron in the EPL? He's certainly fast enough, but he's NOT gonna like the tackles he's going to be on the wrong end of there.
Sporting announced earlier this week that they’ve signed Tyler Freeman to a HGP contract beginning in 2019.
Jozy potentially leaving TFC at the end of the season is getting a lot of ink in Toronto. To go where though?
