Hoo boy. If you make white people racially anxious, they become more Republican on non racial issues.
Okay: I can understand that. But my brain won't jump from "racially anxious" to "tax cuts for corporations are a great idea" and "close the E.P.A. now!"
Fear. Everything the masters want is now associated with their fears. If the GOP elites want it, they just say the opposite is terrible for them. They have also pinned the blame on liberals that can’t see the things the way they do. It has been a genius strike from the right.
Not sure what the mystery is here. This is because of how politics are framed in the US. We're all conditioned to think in the way our media and politicians frame things. This is why we constantly talk about conservatives who vote against their self interest, or sometimes vice versa. So if subconsciously you gravitate towards one conservative position, you'll begin to gravitate towards the others. To test this, one would run the same test in another country where things are framed differently. For example, European right wing parties are sometimes more generous with the welfare state than the American Democratic Party (https://www.economist.com/europe/20...ffering-bigger-handouts-than-traditional-ones). Ask the same questions to those populations through the lens of what Americans consider liberal/conservative, and you'll probably get a completely different outcome.
No reason to be alarmed... #Russia's state TV:Vitaly Tretyakov, dean of Moscow State University's School of Television, argues that Russia should act decisively in response to the new sanctions. If you want us to support you in the elections, do what we say."©️ pic.twitter.com/1HXZi3KPuP— Julia Davis (@JuliaDavisNews) August 10, 2018 More detailed translation of what Tretyakov says re: sanctions (shortened in the original Tweet due to character constraints):"Let's turn this into a headache for Trump. If you want us to support you in the elections, which we're ostensibly arranging, then do this or that." ©️— Julia Davis (@JuliaDavisNews) August 10, 2018
ok now from the other side, seats that Democrats are defending, can the blue wave save these? https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-hopes-house-could-stumble-045344253.html But if the wave is big enough, they may not matter.
Collins is suspending his election race. Not sure how this is going to work.... BREAKING: In an about-face, U.S. Rep. Chris Collins says he will suspend his re-election campaign after insider-trading indictment.— The Associated Press (@AP) August 11, 2018
The county party chairs from the district will meet and pick a nominee. Collins will not be on the ballot, the new person will. Unlikely that this new person will have difficulty winning, but it does mean that the Republicans will have to spend resources to prop up the new candidate at the expense of other districts.
Yeah as @ChrisSSBB will tell you, that part of Western NY is reliably red. It is suburban to rural Buffalo so they could be taken but you need a good candidate who can thread that needle.
Nope.....It is much more complicated than that. He may not be able to have his name removed. Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), one of President Trump’s earliest backers in Congress, suspended his campaign on Saturday, in the wake of insider trading allegations that resulted in his dramatic arrest this week, CNBC reports. Roll Call: “Removing Collins’ name from the ballot would be extremely difficult under New York State law. According to a spokesman for the state Board of Elections, the three avenues to remove one’s name from the ballot is if the candidate dies; does not meet the basic requirements for candidacy like minimum age and residency in the state; or runs for another office and declines the nomination for the first office that candidate was seeking.” Politico: “Under New York law, Collins’ name can be supplanted on the ballot at this stage of the cycle only if he dies, moves out of state or is nominated for another office — like a local judgeship. According to Erie County GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy, the exact mechanisms are still being worked out, but he noted Collins owns houses in Florida and Washington, D.C.”
Are all cheaters GOP of lately? http://thehill.com/homenews/campaig...rida-house-candidate-faked-her-diploma-report School officials said a Republican candidate running for the GOP nomination in a Florida legislative seat lied about graduating from Miami University and faked her diploma, according to a new report. Melissa Howard, who wants a Sarasota-area state House seat, claimed that she earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the Ohio school.
Don't worry—our federal and state governments have assured us that, while the Russians have highly trained and experienced military hackers who desperately want to break into our electoral systems, there's no way they did in 2016 what this 11 year-old did. https://t.co/xPIluJH026— Seth Abramson (@SethAbramson) August 13, 2018
The words “replica of the Florida state election website” made my bullshit detectors beep. First of all, “replica,” as in “not the real thing,” as in “how do I know that it’s an identical exploit or even as difficult as the real thing would be?” Second, “the Florida state election website,” as in “what data do they actually keep there?” If all the raw data and processing equipment and software are on different systems that aren’t externally accessible, then hacking the web server isn’t that impressive. In other words, you can hack my company’s website, but if all you are able to do is change the phone numbers on the “Contact us” page, you’re not exactly accomplishing much. This demonstration might mean nothing or it might mean everything, but there are so many questions that would have to be answered in order to where it falls.
What do you think he meant? I’m not sure he meant they’d be able to change the actual vote total.. Changing the vote total just on a the official reporting site is a tactic the Russians have used in Ukraine to sow distrust in the actual votes. Given how both parties are primed to distrust the voting system right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were claims of corruption/hacking of the actual results if something similar were to happen withonly the “reported” results in a key and visible race. Heck, look what happened in Kansas when an extremely common data entry error at the SoS office was caught by the county board of elections. The Governor not so subtly accused Kobach of having untoward intent and demanded Kobach recuse himself...
How about if your company had been plagued for weeks by vicious and untrue rumors about missing their targets in the previous quarter. Then when they release their press release announcing they had met their targets someone hacked the site and replaced the real financial report with a fake one showing they had missed their targets? Even though all that was changed was the numbers on the financial report, it’s still going to cause a hit to the stock price.
