That's called hearsay and inadmissible. Watch the video. That doesn't make sense. The cover up is always worse than the crime. . .
For reference, Maniacal is a regular poster on the BS referee's forum, where there is an extensive conversation going on about this incident if any of you would like to see the perspective of the refereeing community.
I hate to "cheat" you out of anymore information, but the contents of the official match report are typically not available to the public (although totally admissable in court should that ever be necessary). I sometimes drop little clues to what I know, however.
I'm not saying that the match report does not say that Bedoya was given a second yellow for dissent, but I am saying from extensive experience that the police report does not always match what the body camera (video from behind the goal) shows and what the witnesses (that would be me) know they saw.
JR Smith said he knew the score. Roger said he never took steroids. The narrative after an event, on occasion, is tailored to meet a desired perspective.
Jim Curtin’s remarks on losing the appeal of Alejandro Bedoya’s red card will probably get him fined for criticizing the appeal process. Here’s his full opening statement from today’s press conference: pic.twitter.com/DBmVRxYC1D— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 7, 2018 I keep watching the video of the incident. He just kneels there. He then stand up. His lips aren't moving. He's just there. It's pretty clear that unless he's a ventriloquist on the side, he didn't say anything. It's obvious to me that the yellow was for being in the arc. If Stoica was hearing voices, perhaps he needs a psychological evaluation. He realized the yellow was pretty silly, so he changed the reason in the report. It's just like everything else in life. Some people are given power in situations and are given license to make things up. It is what it is. What's troubling is that the player from Atlanta feared retribution from PRO for being a whis
As Martinez was getting ready to take the kick, the stadium was buzzing with anticipation. There is no way that Stoica could have heard anything that Bedoya would have said from that distance, particularly given that Bedoya's lips were not moving. Stated differently, it would have been impossible for Stoica to have heard Bedoya "mutter something under his breath." Simply put, Sorin Stoica made a mistake and has compounded the problem by trying to cover it up with a lie. I see that as a major problem.
Why do I get the feeling that Harris called him that during his tirade? Seems the ref was thoroughly confused during this situation. Between the loud, excited crowd; irate Union Players; Atlanta players urging a sending off..........the situation could have and should have been handled a helluva lot better. All Stoica had to do was go up to Ale BEFORE he spots the ball for the kick and explain to him that the VAR official looked at the play and there is not a clear and obvious mistake so the PK will stand. That's it. He does that, and none of the inappropriate behavior happens.
What he should have done is just let the guy take the PK. If it goes in, whatever. If he misses...Ale's encroachment means he gets to try again. I don't buy that he was confused about the situation. He knew exactly what happened. He simply thought the dissent explanation would play better. Lying about what caused the second yellow is pretty inexcusable and not a good look for PRO.
True, seeing as how he didn't seem to take issue with Dockal standing inside the arc when Martinez lined up and took the PK............
As Curtin said, a second yellow for infringement wouldn't have been appealed. Whether you feel it was silly or not, it couldn't be argued. Having read the discussion in the refs forum, I feel fine with the 2nd yellow. Bedoya was deliberately not complying with the pk preparation and he knew he'd been cautioned. Wasn't the time to take chances. And of course Haris was just a p***k. But the way it's been written up is definitely fishy. The video and the outrage from Jim suggest the alleged dissent never happened. I'm sure we'll never get to the bottom of it.
