I will be in Russia watching Argentina vs. Iceland. When the USA did not make it, my brother and I decided that following Iceland would give us the best chance in the ticket lottery. It worked. We leave on Tuesday and return on July 1st.
The Last Eight is set 🏆#USOC2018 pic.twitter.com/dT9N9VSMAD— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) June 21, 2018 1009637337565941760 is not a valid tweet id The Union have to beat Orlando at home and then the winner of Chicago and Louisville to make the final. And the schedule sets up an advantage for the Union against Orlando, too. Orlando has a league game Jul 14th and Jul 21st. The Union, however, have a league game Jul 7th. A friendly against Frankfurt Jul 14th. Then a league game Jul 21st. If Jim plays any of the starting XI in that stupid friendly, we riot. They need to all be on the shrimp deck. Let the academy kids and Steel roster play. This is...doable.
There will be another draw once the Final Four is set. Big advantage that the Union do not play the prior weekend while OCSC plays Saturday night at home against Toronto.
Jim won't play the XI against Frankfurt. It will be all Steel and deep reserves. Orlando's schedule isn't great: July 14: Orlando vs. Toronto, Philadelphia vs. Eintracht Frankfurt July 18: Philadelphia vs. OrlandoJuly 21: Orlando at Columbus, Union vs. L.A. Galaxy— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) June 21, 2018 Liking the odds.
If Philly wins they would have a good chance at hosting the semifinal as well. Chicago doesn't usually like to host Open Cup Games, and who knows if Louisville's owners would have the money to host the game.
Louisville is sharing with AAA Baseball team now, so could be a schedule conflict too. I think if they can they will try to host, the owners seem to have cash, they are getting a stadium built. Chicago usually take the cup pretty seriously, I don't see why they wouldn't try to host if they can.
I'm not going on anything but memory here, but don't we tend to suck a whole bunch coming off any kind of rest?
I'm honestly no so sure. Maybe a handful of starters, but definitely not all of them. We've never had an open cup game this close to a friendly. Closest example is 2016 where he at least sat a handful of starters. Friendly v. Crystal Palace on July 13th: PHILADELPHIA UNION STARTING XI: John McCarthy (Matt Jones HT); Fabinho (Ray Gaddis HT), Josh Yaro (Richie Marquez HT), Ken Tribbett (Anderson HT), Keegan Rosenberry (Taylor Washington HT); Brian Carroll © (Warren Creavalle HT), Leo Fernandes; Roland Alberg (Derrick Jones HT) Walter Restrepo (Ryan Richter 77’), Sebastien Le Toux (Cole Missimo HT); C.J. Sapong (Fabian Herbers HT) League v. Red Bulls on July 17th: PHILADELPHIA UNION STARTING XI: Blake; Fabinhio, Marquez, Tribbett, Rosenberry; Carroll, Barnetta (Creavalle '93), Pontius (Le Toux '82), Alberg (Herbers '64), Ilsiniho; Sapong Cup v. New England on July 20th: PHILADELPHIA UNION STARTING XI: Andre Blake; Raymon Gaddis, Ken Tribbett, Richie Marquez, Fabinho; Tranquillo Barnetta (Leo Fernandes 76'), Warren Creavalle; Ilsinho, Roland Alberg (Fabian Herbers 66'), Chris Pontius (Sebastien Le Toux 66'); C.J. Sapong SUBS: John McCarthy, Keegan Rosenberry, Josh Yaro, Brian Carrol I'm thinking Frankfurt is going to be something close to what we saw in the first Open Cup game this year... except maybe swapping Jones for Haris and maybe some juggling of the wingers. (maybe some back line juggling too)
Not to mention in the past they didn't have a robust Academy Structure, let alone a USL team to draw players from. Say what you will about the quality of the depth, but the Union actually have depth at almost every position now. Yaro and Marquez were starters just two seasons ago and now they are firmly buried on the bench. Hell, Fabiam Herbers was getting starts and consistent sub minutes not that long ago, and now he's far down the depth chart as well. Outside of Striker, there's lots of options outside of the regulars to play against Frankfurt. Tickets go on sale Wednesday. For STH's tickets will be $10 for all non premium seats. $20 for Club Seats, and $40 for all other premium areas. STH's will receive an email prior to Wednesday detailing how they can purchase their normal seats. Parking will be free again. Lot A will be closed again.

Don't forget to WATCH THURSDAY's Official Draw LIVE to see who'll host the #USOC2018 Semis & the order of priority for hosting the Final ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/W1AiShRfnQ— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) July 19, 2018
The Union play at Portland on August 4 and Chicago plays at RSL on August 4. The team that hosts the semifinals on August 8 has the huge advantage.
The #USOC2018 Semifinal & Final Draw, scheduled for today, has been postponed following a protest by @TimbersFC relating to the number of foreign players fielded by @LAFC during their Quarterfinal. A new time for the Draw will be decided soon. 🗞 → https://t.co/2tNuAdd7H7— U.S. Open Cup (@opencup) July 19, 2018 Too bad the LAFC team officials don't read Big Soccer before Open Cup games for warnings about international player limits like the Union FO does.
The Timbers must've just been sitting on this. Would they have filed a protest is they won the game and advanced to the semis?

The issue is over whether or not Michael Kaye-Anthony has a Green Card. He may not. In MLS he doesn't count as an international as he is part of the Home Grown Player Initiative. He meets the criteria for a Canadian player to count as a domestic in the US. This would be embarrassing for LAFC, a team that hasn't put a foot wrong yet in their early existence. That said...........I hope they have to forfeit, as they are the clear favorites to lift the Cup at this point. They are clearly the best team left in the competition.
On the other hand, for Portland to get a do-over based on a technicality would be very questionable. Maybe they penalize LA by stripping them of hosting rights for the remainder of the tournament.
