That might hold up during an exhibition. A competition with a real trophy and reward? That's a bit bigger than a tennis game at a park. BTW, I feel safe in saying the Red Bulls are superior to Tijuana at least. two games home at home with stakes, one team starting their season, one in the middle of it. The former side got a two goal shut out on the road followed by a pretty uneven 3-1 encounter at home. The 2018 New York Red Bulls > The 2017-18 Club Tijuana Maybe that's different next year, but for now...
I was taking the piss in my post, I should go back and add an /s. I was parodying the excuses I've read here over the years, especially in 2010 when Islanders proved supremacy over Galaxy. Tuca deserves to have this rubbed in his face, but he won't care. He's glad the only focus now is the league. He literally smiled the year he got bounced by Sounders. He's a disgrace IMO.
Well I and many others get to eat crow tonight. Congrats to you lot. Looks like we have our work cut out for us in semis (barring a disaster tomorrow night)
Finally watched the match via DVR. Great game. Mavinga was huge tonight. Looks like Tigres agree with that sentiment as well... Andre Pierre Gignac walked to @TorontoFC’s bus to give Chis Mavinga a signed #Tigres jersey. #Respect @TSN_Sports #TFCLive pic.twitter.com/S1GVm2p8pG— Matthew Scianitti (@TSNScianitti) March 14, 2018
The physicist whose shadow will grow and grow as time goes by is Hugh Everett III, the father of Many Worlds. From entanglement to quantum computers, the reality-as-superposition-of-infinite-states Everett opened to us is something that will take other 300 years to stomach completely. I suspect it will be for our machines to untangle the consequences, not for us. Organic intelligence has a low ceiling.
This night was exactly what the CCL needed. In fact, the aforementioned Sea-Tor final, while I agree hilarious, would help as well. CCL needs MLS clubs to bounce Liga MX teams, both to increase indignation in Mexico and lead to better ratings, and increase interest in the US (where too many fans won't pay attention if they can't win). TFC over Tigres was actually win-win. Concacaf chiefs right now should be praying for an MLS champion. That would be the path towards really monetizing this thing.
So... I believe the Red Bulls are also the first MLS team to not only advance, but win both legs against Liga MX opposition? I like the joint all-star game. It makes more sense to me than all-stars playing a foreign club. (Also, there's precedent: the J-League and K-League had a joint all-star game for many years.)
Toronto bending quiu certainlty saw him starring to grow roots into the pitch on a few occasions when he could have been running
Sounds like Bruce Arena with the Galaxy in the CCL group stages and the USOC. My local D2 team eliminated the Galaxy three straight years in the USOC while they were the dominant MLS team. Nobody fooled themselves that the RailHawks were an MLS caliber team. Hell, Arena AND Sarachan stayed home the second year - sending Curt Onalfo with the scrubs.
The NY Red Bulls move on to face the winner of the Seattle-Guadalajara series. The host of the 2nd leg in the semifinals is determined by performance in the tournament so far. NY has already clinched that advantage. They have 10 points from their 4 games. Seattle and Guadalajara are both sitting on 6 pts so neither can catch up. In the other semifinal, Toronto will meet the winner of Club America-Tauro. Toronto only has 7 points and a goal difference of +2 from their 4 games. Club America already has 7 points with a +8 goal difference. The only way Toronto could host the 2nd leg would be for Tauro to knock Club America out tonight.
And then listen to them bitch after the game about how we bunker and don't want to play soccer and they were the better team. "The U.S. is a small team," he said. "They play like my sister, my aunt and my grandmother."
FYI. Lodeiro didn't travel with Seattle. He has a foot injury apparently. He also shaved his head from what I hear... Haven't seen pics yet.
