Saw an interior rendering on an athletic facilities e-mail about a week ago, apparently 'more cowbell' has been replaced by more steampunk?
Too late to add w/ an edit but here is the article, lower left image shows the steam and 'steam punk' aspect we see so often in Spain, Germany, England, Italy, France etc. https://www.athleticbusiness.com/fa...ten-facilities.html?eid=282190650&bid=2321477 To be clear and in general nice look to the overall stadium with form following function so far as I can see by just those images, probably enough open space in the roof system for healthy 'natural' turf as well.
I doubt that the pictures in the article are very close to what will actually be built, since the new ownership group hasn't officially bought the team yet. At this stage of the process, we've seen quite a few fanciful designs, mostly high-level clip art. However, I'm sure the new Crew place will be outstanding and I'm glad they're finally building it.
I've pretty much never seen an MLS stadium where the final product looked anything like the initial rendering.
The Minnesota United stadium is pretty much exactly what was in the first renderings, but I agree, in general it's rare.
I remember the first article in this series ("So Let's Build a Pro Soccer Team From Scratch") being posted a couple years ago, but I can't remember who posted it. It was a fascinating read, and I've checked in from time to time since the original story. The club is Kingston Stockade FC, a semi-pro (amateur) team in Kingston, NY, competing against both amateur and pro teams in the NPSL. Their website contains a number of follow-up articles detailing the cost, struggles, successes, and real world experience in operating a competitive lower division team. It's an interesting read during the winter. Here's the website, with the articles: http://www.stockadefc.com/
Until recently Kingston’s coach was former Rapids media director David Lindholm. Also Kingston and the Cosmos are taking the USSF to court over the lack of pro/rel which is a laughable waste of time and resources, so I have very split feelings about them.
Sigi Schmid passed away on Christmas Day. A big loss for the MLS community-- many commenting on Twitter are commenting on what a great person he was. All time winningest coach in MLS.
Wow, that's sad. Really hard not to make a "big" pun but there's no other way to say it, he was a big part of the league and its history. Plus the years he spent at UCLA.
I wasn't aware they were part of that pro/rel nonsense. yecccch! It's interesting seeing the obstacles they encountered in just getting a lower tier team off the ground. That part of their materials is a good business 101 primer (and gut check) for anyone who dreams of owning a team. The old joke about it being easy to be a millionaire sports team owner if you start with a billion is definitely true.
Both mlssoccer.com and the City of Columbus are stating that the Columbus Crew deal is completed. That's great news for soccer fans.
Read somewhere that the Browns owners had bought the Crew guaranteeing that they'd stay in Columbus. Good for the Crew and hope they get their downtown stadium.
In October of 2017, our community faced the seemingly impossible task of keeping Columbus Crew SC where it belongs. Today, we are proud to announce an achievement many said was unattainable: The Columbus Crew is saved. pic.twitter.com/LfUA7F48Qj— Alex Fischer (@AlexFischerCBUS) December 28, 2018
I am happy Austin if Austin gets a team, after years of supporting a lower league club there. Happier if it doesn't come at the expense of a MLS city...
Klopp really has Liverpool going great. I don't like Liverpool but really like the way he gets teams to play. When they're going well it seems like they have an extra man.

Mark Geiger has retired his whistle and is taking over as PRO's Director of Senior Match Officials. That appears to be a fancy name for chief of MLS officials. Geiger's a good one, and always has good mechanics in matches. Here's hoping he can take MLS officiating up a notch or two in his new role.
Meanwhile, "Austin's Legendary Announcement" (presumably the expansion announcement) is set for Tuesday. Precourt apparently is planning a 20,000 seat stadium on the alleged toxic waste site that Austin has designated for the stadium. Hmmm. "Austin Toxins FC" has a certain ring to it . . .
Yes, there is that, with the two-headed rabbits and glow-in-the-dark Bambis. It reminds me of Weird Al's "Christmas at Ground Zero" (back before Ground Zero took on a new meaning): Oh, it's Christmas at Ground Zero And if the radiation level's okay I'll go out with you and see the all new Mutations on New Year's Day
Yeah, "Rocky Mountain Arsenal" is a doozy. Sounds pretty serious...sarin and other chemical weapons, plus pesticides were produced there.
