I'd guess like 6'4 or 6'5. He was listed at 6'2 with the U-15's a few years ago. Being a tall keeper doesn't guarantee being good though, just look at Jurgen's son. The 6'0 keeper Marcinkowski was better than him (IMO) and he had to be like five inches taller.
I think there's a misunderstanding. I think there was two games. One for the starters, which was won 4-1. The "Sargent" game. Another for the back ups, which was won 2-0. The "dos Santos" game. Durkin is a starter.
That's not Durkin. The only one I recognize is Sergio Dest from Ajax in the front row. Looking now for a roster.
I found match reports on the Japanese football federation website, but they don't say anything about who our players were. It looks like we might play them again on Wednesday.
Sargent, Garces, Lindsay, Gloster. Can't see any more beyond that. And I saw Akinola and Ferri in other photos. U-17日本代表アメリカ遠征 強豪アメリカ代表に連敗 https://t.co/AH0mFU7Utg #jfa pic.twitter.com/y0ujduvjsk— 日本サッカー協会 (@JFA) March 20, 2017
I was thinking that it might've been Villegas, but I wasn't sure. And also, I did notice after looking at it again that I can see Ferri, but I had already mentioned that he played in that game, so I didn't see any reason to correct it. I'm not sure if Durkin played, don't you think he would've been the captain if he played? Sargent was the captain for this game.
Looks like Carlos Duke played against us for Japan. Thanks to @naopon and others for info in his YA thread: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/carlos-duke-at-kawasaki-frontale.2034709/
Scanned Japanese media too and there isn't really anything aside from the detailed JFA match report which doesn't mention any US player names. I could translate if there is any interest, but the summary: "While conditioning was an issue due to jetlag and travel, the US was head and shoulders above in terms of technique, individual tactics, football awareness, physical attributes, and mentality. The Japan '00s will swallow this bitter pill and use it as fuel their progress going forward." I don't know a ton about the Japan U17s except that their most highly touted prospect - 15yo La Masia alum Takefusa Kubo - is with the U20s instead. http://www.jfa.jp/national_team/u17_2017/news/00012969/
I noticed another player on that team, Ryu Hashimura, has the arguably not-traditional Japanese middle name of "Joseph" -- wonder about in his background, though obviously it wouldn't necessarily have to be American. Kubo, the "Japanese Messi" as he's apparently sometimes called, was caught up in the same FIFA issues as Ben Lederman as I recall.
Hashimura is half-English, while the other "haafu" on the team, Shinta Karl Appelkamp, is a half-German at Fortuna Düsseldorf. So AFAIK Carlos Duke is the only Yank playing on this Japan squad.
This has probably been covered earlier in this thread, but are Barca's Ben Lederman (00) and Konrad de la Fuente (01) in contention for a spot on team for qualifying or the U17 WC?
Probably not to both. The sense I get is that de la Furente is the higher rated of the two, but I don't know if he's highly rated enough to earn a spot in the odd year age group with the U-17's. Few odd year age group players are capable of it, and while he has been a regular for the U-16's, is he one of the better U-16's? Who knows? I figure if he was, he would've gotten a chance with the U-17's by now, most of the best U-16's have. Lederman was a fringe U-17 NT player while he wasn't at Barcelona. He was in training and some lesser games, but I don't think he was ever selected for any of the bigger tournaments and games. I also am pretty sure he's not a starter in his Barcelona age group, while Konrad is.
