At this point I figure the offseason is over. Here's our first season news: http://www.denverpost.com/2017/03/02/rapids-tim-howard-shkelzen-gashi-injury-updates/ No Howard this week, likely no Gashi. I'm a little concerned Gashi could turn into a long-term 'when will he get healthy?" thing.
No worries. The RFO would let us know if he was out long term. They are known for transparency on such issues. Or not..... rod.
Weird that the Super Draft guys haven't been signed yet. You'd think that would already be handled...but guess that takes time and an FO that's actually working???
Saw this at bottom regarding who is still in camp Footnotes. Rapids parted ways this week with second round 2017 SuperDraft pick Liam Callahan. Rapids sporting director Pádraig Smith said while the team liked the fullback’s character, mentality and delivery from the left side, they felt he still had work to do defensively before he was MLS ready. … First round pick Sam Hamilton, a midfielder from the University of Denver, and third round pick Jaime Siaj, a striker from Madrid, Spain, remain unsigned but in camp with the Rapids. … Trialist goalkeeper Cody Mizell from Charlotte Independence is also still in camp with Colorado.
IIRC signing our two picks last year happened the same day as JJ, which was the day before the opener. So expect an announcement tomorrow?
Chatted with Hinchey last night at the jersey launch party. The club should be signing another CB before the first game, indicating that it would actually be announced today. Not a marquee signing or anything though, just some depth. He also said the club is looking at two specific wingers to try and bring in during the summer window. In terms of their quality, I'm guessing they're on par with that guy they tried to bring in earlier this year...minus the whole failing the physical fiasco.
Depends, if Berner and Howard are both too injured to suit up on Sat. we could keep Mizell on a short term contract.
Interesting. Most on this board believe the Rapids should be in pursuit of a #9 and #10 to help the scoring woes. If they sign two more wingers they will in effect be adding competition for the likes of Gashi, Hairston, Serna, and Badji. Nothing wrong with competition, but . . . Appreciate the info Quinn. It's great when regular posters are able to get info that others aren't asking.
Not that this is really new info: http://www.denverpost.com/2017/03/02/colorado-rapids-score-more-goals-mls/ "Mastroeni spent weeks in a dark room this winter watching video of teams from all over the world, looking for ideas to make his team more fluid and productive in the attack." "The solution came down to getting more attackers into the opponent’s penalty area."
Dang, it took us what 3-4 games of watching just rapids games to come to same conclusion. My Favorite of 2016 was a wing with ball near end line and no a soul in the box wearing our colors. How much longer before he final realizes that Kevin Doyle isn't much of a scoring threat.
After watching Vancouver vs. New York last night, I wish we had gone after Freddy Montero. With one guy up top the striker needs to have a knack for being in the right spot at he right time. I like Doyle but he is so dependent on service, he doesn't ever seem to make something out of nothing.
As expected, Cody Mizell loaned in as cover for MacMath http://www.coloradorapids.com/post/...eeper-cody-mizell-loan-charlotte-independence

Let's start a GoFundMe so that Pablo can buy a console with FIFA and/or Football Manager. Watching on a screen is no substitute for managing on a screen. He could also scout players and learn substitutions.
Picked up this tweet earlier today, hadn't seen it posted yet: Evan Ream@EvanReam I see some Republic fans noticed Mike da Fonte didn't play tonight...I'm told he's on his way to the Colorado Rapids Sounds like perhaps another CB is on his way to the Rapids? Haven't though through the depth chart in great detail, but that doesn't seem to be an area of critical need.... Unless a trade is coming with one of our more established CB's. rod.
Heard a rumor yesterday (which I would have told you had you shown up ) that a defensive signing was expected late last week. I'm guessing this was it. Though I agree, its not a great area of need. Looking at our depth chart on the backline: RB: Miller, Williams, Castillo CB: Sjoberg, Watts, Burling, Ford LB: Burch, Williams Its light but not as light as other positions (attacking mid). If he can play LB though I can see more upside.
I think because of the quote below I was looking up Sam Hamilton to potentially add to that depth chart. Instead I discovered a new batch of interns (or would that be knew) carrying on the traditions: Report: Rapids knotch 1-0 victory over Revolution in 2017 opener
I just started a game in control of Bath FC on FM Touch. I'm going to be in Bath a week from now so it seemed a good choice.
Good article on Padraig Smith, his role with the Rapids, how statistical analysis works in soccer, and its role in the MLS. http://www.the42.ie/padraig-smith-colorado-rapids-3272140-Mar2017/
