One thing the USL expansion has showed is that there is talent out there to be found. Not sure grabbing a 34 year old is going to shore up anything for more than a few weeks. Edited: removed snarky age comment caused by a long, long week. [emoji12]
Has anyone heard anything on Peter McGlynn? He's not played in any of the preseason matches to my knowledge. I assume he's banged up.
da Fonte has officially caught on with the Rapids. NEWS: Republic FC transfer defender Mike da Fonte to MLS club @ColoradoRapids for the 2017 season. Read: https://t.co/sP3LrNTyjv pic.twitter.com/mzlbLTvr8J— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) March 14, 2017
I wonder if the club intends to sign only one of Davey & Huiqui or both if it can. It's probably a moot point. I suspect that none of these would want to sign here to be a backup, but I guess we can't know what options they have available right now. BTW, McGlynn has posted on social media that he's back home rehabing a knee injury.
Honestly, if they sign Davey and James, I think it's Rodriguez that will find it tough to make the starting lineup.
No doubt. My point is, we still have only two signed CB's. I would hope we want to have at least four. I'm speculating whether either Davey and Huiqui would want to sign here without assurances of being a starter. That leaves us still with only three CB's, one of whom is likely out for several weeks. That assume one of the trialists signs and that James is a starter.
CB Alex Davey's twitter account indicates he's back in England. Joel Huiqui was not in uniform tonight. Former UCSB defender Sam Strong was on the bench. He's 21 and had a call-up to the U23-USMNT camp. Good size for a CB at 6'2". However, seems to have gotten into a little trouble and might have been asked to leave during his sophomore season. Klimenta started, moving Hord to the bench. Hall moved back to CB, putting Caarez into the starting lineup. Buckle's lineup has been pretty consistent in the last few games. As of right now, it's looking like tonight's (except Newton for Jakubek): Can't say I'm crazy about Cazarez and Ochoa starting. I hope we sign a CB, move Hall back into MF, push Blackwood up top in place of Ochoa. I'd also like to see DTS develop and become a starter before year's end. He's probably a year away from doing that, though.
Barring any final day signings, here is the roster to start the 2017 season. Latest updates: Added James as an international player Added Sam Strong as a trialist Removed the rumored * from Christian, since he appears to be training in Portugal Removed Da Fonte Removed Davey from list of trialists, as his social media indicates he's back in England Removed Motagalvan and the list of players the team holds options for 2017 You'll notice that the maximum number of foreign players remains at seven. I have as many as nine listed. If anyone knows which players are not considered as internationals, please let me know. Inactive players do not count against the 30 player roster, but those just seem to be players out on loan. The league's definition of inactive does not seem to include injured players. If we're maxed out at seven foreign players, than we need to loan one in order to sign Huiqui. Otherwise, there's no point to him being here.
Hit the edit button. Chris Christian is back. Back line should be pretty strong this season. http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/news_article/show/773902
With Chris Christian back and signing of Sammy Ochoa i'm excited for this coming season. Not looking forward to mosquitos and tons of insects at The Murph this year . But i'm upset SRFC released some our favorites such as Max Alvarez and Tavo Guzman.
Yeah, too bad about Max. I read somewhere that he was trialing with SF, but he's not on their official roster.
Look who else ended up on the roster of "SRFC on the Missouri"... Two appearances off the bench so far for Max. Also, Mirkovic is out with a broken fibula.
On this three game road trip (Tul/OKC/SPR) we had two, true CB's with the club. Christian played game two as he worked his way back into the lineup, then was suspended for game three. James made the trip but didn't see the pitch. Is he banged up or does Buckle see him more as a warm body/break glass only in case of emergency type of player?
Klimenta called up again to Montenegrin national team. Will be absent 5/24 through 6/10. http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/news_article/show/794784?referral=rss&referrer_id=2995082
We will certainly miss him, but what an honor for him. I think his ACL injury was shortly after his return last time, If I recall correctly. Hope he stays healthy!!
It appears McGlynn may be ready to return... It's been a long few months but the last session is finished! Thanks for getting me back healthy… https://t.co/C5fBoqp7GH— Peter McGlynn (@Peter3McGlynn) May 26, 2017
