We won 2-1 at D.C. to finish with 50 points. We got the 6 seed and go to Chicago. Because the playoffs have the best and worst remaining seeds play each other, we would face 1 seed Toronto next. We can't face NYCFC until the Eastern Conference Finals. We had 8 more points than the Eastern Conference 6 seed had last year.
Wow, the games are coming fast & furious this week for my two club teams. Our single-game play-in with Chicago is Weds 10/25 8:30pm on FS1 & Unimas. I just confirmed that if the single knockout games are tied, they go to Extra Time before PK's. Anyway, we should get a bit of a boost from how we played at RFK yesterday. I'm ever so slightly optimistic.
Other than when all MLS games needed winners, was there ever a time when a game between two MLS clubs went to PKs without extra time? I'm excluding the All-Star game and preseason tournaments.
I dunno but back in the old days they were still doing shootouts, not unlike the NASL. I kinda liked shootouts TBH.
And so its on to face the best team in the league... this team sure is something different when Royer is around, but I'm still mighty pessimistic.
Best road performance in club history? At 2-0 I kept remembering all the road chokes we had a few seasons ago with two goal leads. At 3-0 I finally stopped stressing.
Yeah last night was truly WTF. I didn't watch it so closely, but I was left thinking that it can't just be that we were that good. Chicago must've been quite poor in their setup or their execution. Oh well, onward! We'll have a better sense in a few days when we take on the team that Sasha called "maybe the best team ever in MLS history". Really???
Hey I didn’t say we’d lose! I said don’t be optimistic...because our defense sucks. And I’ll say that again for this series. We played really well and the 4-0 scoreline looks great but we also had a little luck to get there. First and formost we got a huge keeper blunder to put us in the drivers’ seat and Chicago absolutely stinks when playing from behind. We also got away with a Robles kickout. Finally although it finished 4-0 Chicago had some decent chances 15 minutes before and after halftime. If they connect on one of those it’s a whole different game. Also, keep in mind Chicago: 1. Was not as well rested as us. 2. Was dealing with injuries. 3. Had a terrible home crowd. So look, yes you make your own luck and yes you can only play who’s in front of you, but I simply don’t believe our defense can hold up like that again and in a scenario where road goals are gold I simply don’t like our chances.
Reverse psychology. Trying to build them up so they start believing their $hit don’t stank. I’m sure he respects them..but I’m also sure he’s thinking “f#ck these guys”.
Everybody played their last regular season game at the same time, so how was there a difference in rest? I started a topic for last night's games that people didn't post in. If you want this topic to be used rather than a topic for each game then "regular season" should be taken out of the title.
Good idea. Completely forgot. Thanks. Chicago played their regulars in Houston cause they were jockeying for position. We weren’t so we rested a ton of guys.
I feel your pain, but good for you! If I wasn't 1.5 hrs away, I'd make more than the 3-4 per season. It's such a great little stadium and our supporters section has generally been so strong, it's really a shame they can't get more butts in seats, and put out a more successful product.
