Hey there. I see that Kyle has taken a break from posting the kit chart online and I'm trying to figure something out so please indulge me: FCD is in PDX this weekend. Initially the league's kit assignment had PDX in their primary green/green/green kit and Dallas in their "blue"/blue/white get up. (I put the shirt blue in "" because it's really considered their "light or white" jersey and is more white than blue in person) - but today the assignment was updated to have FCD in "blue"/WHITE/white. Now this is significant because I'm 99% sure, and why I was looking for Kyle's chart, FCD has yet to wear white shorts with their secondary shirt. This is also interesting because Dallas' white shorts have red stripes down the sides and this would look odd with the secondary shirt and leading me to wonder if adidas will/has supplied them with an alternate set of shorts that has blue stripes down the sides to better match (which is illustrated in the league's kit assignment graphic). If this is the case, FCD will have THREE sets of shorts to chose from. Red, white w/ red and white w/ blue. Does any other MLS team have three sets of shorts?
Yes, it's not all that uncommon for teams to have multiple pairs of shorts. The Timbers have two pairs of shorts for both of their kits right now (green and white for the home kit, red and black for the away kit). Even Seattle has two pairs of shorts for their primary kit (green and blue) and then they have white shorts for their away kit, and light blue for their third. Atlanta comes to mind as well since they have both red and white shorts for their secondary, and black for their primary. Also, may I ask you how you found the league's graphic for the kit assignment? They were posting them online in the match previews each week but lately they've stopped doing that. I just want to know where I can find the graphics now? If you could help, that'd be much appreciated.
I don't know anything about Dallas' shorts but I'm curious why you are saying "league's kit assignment". Didn't we have a discussion about this last year? I don't think the league assigns kits. They approve the team's choices but don't assign them. Do you have new information to contradict what you wrote last year? That doesn't sound like an assignment to me.
I'm part of 3rdDegree here in Dallas and have a source that sends me the league's graphic each week. I believe the reason they stopped posting them was because, at least in the case of Dallas, it's not uncommon for them to send one out and then send an update with a correction. This has happened in twice of late, here w/ the PDX road game and two weeks ago - when MLS sent out a graphic showing both FCD and Houston to wear their secondary kits for the game in Frisco, only to later send an update - and quelling the likely outrage - that Dallas would wear its primary and Houston its secondary.
"League's Kit Assignment" - is a term I'm using simply to identify the graphic sent out by the league before each game (as seen above). This graphic is part of a doc called the "Office Match Notice: Match (insert match number id here)". While I would suggest we all not get hung up on the semantics, and that i do believe the above hierarchy to still be in place, there may be more influence from the league than previously. EX: as I mentioned above, two weeks ago the Official Match Notice for FCDHOU had BOTH teams wearing their full secondary kits. That was utterly unneeded, and from what I was told, not requested by Dallas. A couple of days later an update was sent out with Dallas wearing its primary and Houston its secondary.
Being someone who follows a MLS team generally always at the bottom of the MLS merchandise sales charts, the concept of having multiple options of anything is pretty foreign . But that is good to know and leads me to ask if anyone is up keeping Kyle's chart while he's not. Also, I'd like to point out in Dallas' case it would be they have two pairs of white shorts, just with different stripes and I wonder if that's been done before.

Forgot to mention it in my original reply to your query, but it was actually done just last season by Dallas. With their hooped secondary that they had the last two seasons, they had both blue and white shorts, and the white ones were different from the ones that go with the primary kit. And now that I think about, Toronto actually had the same thing last season, and again this season. They have a pair of red shorts to go with their secondary kit, and they're different from the ones that go with the primary kit. Last season: This season: NYCFC can be added to the list this season as well since they have navy shorts to go with their new primary, as well as the navy shorts that go with their secondary. And then the last couple examples I'll give is SKC, who had two different pairs of navy shorts last season, and actually again this season, and Portland, who in their first couple of kit cycles had two different pairs of white shorts to go with their green primaries and red secondaries, and they actually at one point had three different pairs of white shorts when they had their retro white third kit. I'm sure there are many more recent examples, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. It actually seems to be a fairly common occurrence in MLS, at least with teams who generally have secondary kits that have the same, or at least similar color schemes to their primary kits.

fantastic catch, and I'd totally forgotten about FCD having different pairs of white shorts in 2016. I don't monitor the rest of the league as you do, so I very much appreciate the education.

So much that it pulled the overall averages up a point or two across the board. Not even an 0fer this week.
