Two things: 1. The MLS Cup is almost certainly going to be held in the East this year. The top 5 teams in the Shield table are all from the East. Only if the Red Bulls win the Eastern Conference playoffs would the Cup possibly be in the West. 2. I looked at the history of the Knockout Round. The home team/higher seed has advanced in 13 of the 16 games held since this format was introduced in 2011. Only one road team has advanced in the last 12 tries. The Dynamo have been in this game twice, winning both times, one on the road and one at home. Kansas City has been eliminated all three times they have been in this round. They have been knocked out the last 3 years playing this game on the road. 10/30/14 NYR 2-1 SKC 10/29/15 POR 2-2 (pks. 7-6) SKC 10/27/16 SEA 1-0 SKC
This is interesting. MLS has posted the hosting for the 2nd leg of the conference semifinals Thursday, November 2 (W2) Seattle v. TBD Sunday, November 5 (W1) Portland v. TBD That surely means that the first legs would be: Sunday, October 29 TBD v. Seattle Tuesday, October 31 TBD v. Portland Otherwise, one series would be playing on Tuesday and then Thursday. If Vancouver beats San Jose that works out OK. Vancouver would host Seattle on Sunday, October 29, and then go to Seattle on Thursday. Meanwhile the winner of Houston/KC would host Portland on Tuesday, October 31, and then go to Portland on Sunday. But if San Jose wins then the Houston/KC winner would have to host Seattle on Sunday, October 29. Thursday-Sunday is a very short turn-around for playoff games. Houston needs to win but to also root for Vancouver, I guess.
A rule change that I saw when it was announced but I kind of forgot about it. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...bstitution-extra-time-2017-postseason-matches The IFAB approved this rule and it has been used experimentally in the FA Cup, Scottish Cup, FIFA Confederations Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. It may become standard in the next couple of years.

Just looking at the Dynamo website and they don't mention the start time in their . press release anywhere so they know that time is toxic in Houston. I will say the Dynamo have gotten dealt a bad hand with start times and game dates but with the Astros rolling they had little choice.

Will Bruin was a non factor for Seattle and will be known for not scoring in the MLS cup for the third time. Dempsey wasn’t much better but he is really only effective when paired with a mobile / fast forward. Either Morris wasn’t fit enough or Schmetzer just liked Bruin’s ‘hustle’ more lol
