Sapong! Hey, I'd be completely content if he gets another hot streak at the beginning of the year like last season, as long as we buy a striker in the Summer in anticipation of his inevitable slump (one can only wish we finally get a 15+ goal striker).
Bedoya needs to step up. I know he is quality based on his play for the NT and in France. This experiment as a 10 is not working. We essentially have a defensive box to box mid that at the 10 playing as a 6, similiar to Jones and Medunjanin. Not working. I don't love or hate alberg (dude scored 9 goals in 1150 minutes, can't ignore that rate), but if he is having a fallout with Curtin and won't get on the pitch, then move Medunjanin to the 10, take a risk with Creavalle (one would hope Edu eventually...), and move Bedoya to the wing for Herbers.
Bedoya is a square peg in a round hole so far. Perhaps inverting the midfield 3 with Jones at the base and Bedoya along side Medujanin would work better.
Surprised there have been no major injuries this match. This ref is not calling anything for either side.
There are some exciting teams in this league playing some decent, exciting games. I'm going to have to watch more of them...... Three Stars: ***-Onyewu: always sets a high bar....... **-Sapong: 2 goals in 2 games *(MotM): Blake: Only guy from Philly who managed to play at actual game speed. @ Union fullbacks, Bedoya and Pontius: na, na na NA NA NA NA......... You're shit........
Well altogether we looked pretty terrible and deserved that result. Curtin's tactics don't put the team in positions to succeed and everyone looked flat on top of that. I'd be interested in seeing Fafa start in Pontius's place next game. Pontius produced last year but he pitches in nothing going forward when he isn't popping up for a goal and it's becoming a liability. Bedoya was bad, Haris gives negative effort defending (which was endearing at first, but has become annoying), Herbers did nothing really other than lucking into a secondary assist, Fabinho's mediocrity is tiresome, Sapong and Onyewu were as you'd expect, Alberg didn't do anything but look to draw fouls, Ilsinho didn't get on the ball enough (not necessarily his fault). Marquez, Jones, Rosenberry, and Blake weren't terrible but weren't great either. All around bad game from the Union.
General thoughts: Rosenberry has majorly regressed. He is playing scared this year and has been responsible for several bad giveaways while demonstrating poor positioning. Bedoya is not a 10. I worried about this going into the season, but he just is not the player we need in that role. Curtin will get fired when this season goes to shit, but Earnie is the highest person on my shit list. Multiple MLS teams have signed promising young South American players, but we target shit European based journeymen who are not good enough for this team (though the jury is still out on Haris). Our biggest holes going into the offseason are still our biggest holes.
