It is a shame Foden is so young because we desperately need a player like him in the full England team
Reckon they'll move TOB to 4 and Kirby to 8 come WC. Would be harsh on McEachran but I could see it happening
Indeed but to be honest, I think we could do with most of this age group in the seniors right now ( obviously if they were older )
Would be harsh indeed as he made the team of the tournament this summer. If Cooper picks TOB and Kirby I'm fine with it though
Sancho not in the CL squad for Dortmund. Suggests they might be open to letting him go with England next month.
Yeah, I think there are a number of players who could have made the team of the tournament if they hadn't been injured; Kirby and Gomes are two obvious examples. McEachran is clearly no dud but I can't see that he's on the same level as our very best midfielders. He ought to be a squad/rotation player if everyone's fit.
It's probably the sensible thing to do. Ideally, he'll acclimatise to Germany for a few weeks, be in India with us till November, head back to Dortmund and really get fully integrated over the Winter Break and their friendlies and then be with the first team from 2018 onwards. It makes perfect sense, especially if he's with England for all of October. There's not that much actual time around that to really get him up to speed and into their squad.
Dunno why everyone's down on McEachran, he's a fine player and he's started this season brilliantly for Chelsea too. Still playing further forward than he does for England but he can do everything for this team if you let him.
I like him. Haven't seen much of Kirby since he left but I just feel he has more about him than McEachran and is a big goal threat.
McEachran averages 1 in 3 in scoring tbf (8 in 30 at U18 level, no set pieces). I like Kirby, I think the midfield options in this group are exceptional and play into England's hands for specific match-ups, I just think McEachran has strong value.
Looked a good eleven but must have been the first time they all played together and probably disjointed
the 11 did look unbalanced IMO. 4 central midfielders + one striker and only one natural wide player. nothing to worry about though.
I must admit, I was kind of surprised to see the scoreline tbh honest but then I stumbled across this which says South Africa was a U20 team?? http://allafrica.com/stories/201709050510.html
Ah, fair enough. It is nominally an under-20 side, but the handful of players that I've Googled so far have been 1999-born, so it's probably equivalent to our under-19s. EDIT: Presumably it's their team for the 2019 U20 World Cup campaign.
Apparently the Brentford fans love him, I see no reason why Southgate couldn't call him up, I remember carrick playing in the second tier arround the same age.
