Kang Jihoon played 90 mins for Gangwon today. I watched the highlight only but I thought he played pretty well. He's a 21 years old right back and our fullback positions are very lacking for this team. Hopefully he keeps this up so we have a decent fbs for Asian Games. He wasn't part of the abysmal u23 team last January.
He played at the U20 WC and as far as I remember he was an offensive winger. Maybe he changed to RB. But at the WC, he kinda sucked.
He played RB but he played pretty well offensively from what I've seen. Defensively I don't really know.
If he does well at Seoul, yes. I am unsure about Lee Jin Hyeon (he's been out of the squad for quite a while) and Jang Gyeol Hee (don't have any clue how he's doing). Lee Kang In could be another must-have, but I want him to become a regular for Valencia B first.
Jang Gyeol-hee is basically rotting away in Greece, as for Lee Kang-in, he'll most likely get called up for Tokyo 2020.
will be interesting how kim hakbum goes about formulating this squad. lee seungwoo completely out of form is still better than half of those kids but if you make an exception for one player, you have to consider making exceptions for other players (ie. baek seungho) as well. not to mention these two basically have been training as forwards in recent years. with son heungmin and hwang heechan surely to be included in the squad (kwon changhoon another high possibility) and most of the inform u23 players being attackers, just how many forwards/attacking midfielders can you fit into a 20 men squad? kim hakbum also has to decide if selecting an overage goalkeeper/central defender will be required with better candidates available in other positions so many decisions to make amidst so little time to evaluate. will be hard to fault him for getting a few selections wrong
Regarding the GK position, I think that Kang Hyun Moo and one of Song Bum Keun / Lee Tae Hee are enough quality for U23 level. Unless he wants to go with Cho Hyun Woo. IMO FB are the weakest point tho...
Damn Han Chan Hee out injured. He's been outstanding this season. Imo this U23's midfield needs to be built around him. I hope he can recover soon.
Why not call up Lee Gang-in? He seems to be better than most Korean university students already. I'd love for him to link up with Kim Jung-min, Lee Sueng-woo and Paek Sueng-ho. We might as well start now as it's not like we have any relevant player pool.
Players that I would have liked to see: Kim Minjae* injured and would have been playing for the senior side anyways. Kim Kunhee instead of Lee Eunbeom. This squad is too DM heavy and don't really have enough wingers so I'll take out Lee Dongkyung for Lee Sangki. I don't know why he didn't pick Han Chanhee so I'll put him instead of Kim Gunwoong or Lee Seungmo. In fact I'll replace one of them with Lim Minhyeok, a player that's playing for for Gwangju. For defence I would have picked Kang Jihoon but I'm having this suspicion that he's the supposed player that was meddling with match fixing. For defence it seems like we have a pretty weak players overall. Maybe add in Kim Woo-seok (Daegu 8 apps), Kim Jaebong (Seongnam 6 apps), few players from Daejeon/K2 league and take out some of these players that have 0 app. Also add in Lee Taehee instead of that Jeonnam gk. Overall, I don't really agree with the squad overall but it's not that important. Once we add Toulon/European/Wild card players most of them won't be in this squad.
My 18-men squad: GK: Kang HM, Song BK CB: Kim MJ, Kwon KW*, Hwang HS FB: Kim JY, Seo YJ, +1 other CM: Kwon CH*, Paik SH, Han CH, Hwang IB, Hwang KW FW: Son HM*, Lee SW, Hwang HC, Na SH, Lee KH *=wild cards, I was unsure between Kwon KW and Park YY, but opted for former because we need experience. Park YY still got time for next tournament (Olympics) I think Kim JM, Lee KI, Cho YW, etc are all being planned for the next gen. 3-4-1-2: KHM HHS / KMJ / KKW PSH / HCH / KCH / KJY LSW SHM / HHC Bam! Total attack!
If I were to pick my team it'll look something like this: Son Heungmin-Hwang Heechan-Lee Seungwoo Han Chanhee-Kwon Changhoon Paik Seungho Kim Jinya-Kim Minjae-Hwang Hyunsoo-Park Yiyoung Son Bumkeun Bench GK: Kang Hyeongmu/Lee Taehee (doesn't matter which). DF: Seo Youngjae, Won Doojae MF: Hwang Inbeom, Han Chanhee FW: Jeon Seijin, Na Sangho
In retrospect the AG 2014 was a huge waste for Korean football. JYS and Lee Yong Jae are exempt but Suk and those guys up front are still heading to the army in a few years unless they manage to pull a 2peat?
In the league, KHM>>>>>>>SBK. SBK is a great talent, but sometimes he makes amateur mistakes (Tianjin group stage, Buriram 1st leg, Pohang league game). He might win young player award, but for the Asian games I would definitely use the more solid keeper in KHM.
