If we had a chance to get either Bobby Wood or Torres at the same price, say $2M, which would y'all prefer?
I guess Bobby? He actually has the legs to survive a whole season of Vermes. But really, probably not either. Both would be pretty overpriced for what they can bring. I think we can see better moves made.
Yeah, neither, especially at that price. But if it was an either/or, definitely Wood. He's younger and wouldn't take up an international spot.
Torres doesn’t? Does SKC out work AMad? I’d wonder about folding a legit superstar in our side But imo Torres would fit enough to be a huge upgrade over Shelton For that he isn’t a Primadonna He has a solid work ethic and still has top level fox in the box reflexes Not my cup of tea and probably not on our radar but he’s been performing even this season at a full step above what Felipe could bring in la Liga and no issues with Felipe More on point for us are we the mls side chasing enner Valencia from tigres
If we are going after a name or a us international, I'd rather take a chance on Kevin bacon from bremen who is probably looking to leave this summer. He obviously has injury issues, but when healthy I've liked him. Bring him in for a year or 2 deal so he can prove himself again.
Yes it is, it took me a little while to get it too. It's a nickname people gave him cause he looks like Bacon.
looking at the player salaries that've recently been released.. wondering if there's any team that gets more out of a player per dollar spent than we get out of salloi.. especially comparing him with his fellow hungarian @new england
I'm just kicking ideas around in my head regarding the summer transfer window and the World Cup. Obviously we are still looking for a striker who can score. World Cup caliber would be nice even if it's a smaller country. But the World Cup is kind of a catch-22. On one hand, if they have a good WC, their price shoots up. But if they don't or get injured or just worn out from no summer break, then that's not good either.
This article changed the way I think about PV and the SKC organization. Also, some great comments about the state of the national team situation. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...vermes-asks-of-us-soccer-what-is-the-pla.html
really solid piece. One thing I was quite glad to learn (and this was me not paying attention, everyone else probably knew it) was that the SKC extension came after hearing out US Soccer. I was nervous there might be another shoe to drop. Also, while he's obviously correct, how hard can it be to figure out the US setup needs a plan? Why is he sounding like a wise man in the wilderness on this? Beyond that, I briefly wobbled early this season, but learned my lesson. We're really fortunate.
Also, final point: Enner Valencia? are we the MLS team courting him? MLS is reporting he's in the US negotiating, is there any hint that it's with SKC? We'd make a lot of sense, though so would a couple other sides
He'd make a lot of sense at just about every MLS side. I know they have said we would spend, but I'd be pretty surprised if we were to outbid, say, seattle who are desperate for attack and are known spenders, for a player like this.
I'm just thinking that if Rooney, Torres and Balotelli are headed to MLS, Valencia might be possible for us (as the bigger spenders would be bringing in the bigger names).
I honestly can't think of any reason why an MLS team would consider signing Wayne Rooney for competitive reasons at the expense it would take. Because there are no good reasons. I really hope SKC doesn't reach the point of overpaying a known international star for marketing purposes. There's only ever been one David Beckham, and even the Beckham effect mostly wore off after a couple of years for everyone but the Galaxy (and jersey sales). Even Blanco's attendance bump as he moved around the league faded pretty quickly. We're likely never going to be in the top spending category so we absolutely have to be smarter about buying. The day SKC signs a contemporary Rooney is the day you know they're trying to distract from the disaster on the field.
if balotelli come to mls, it will be spectacular. obviously, he has the tools to be a big success, but he also has the mental disposition to be a massive failure... and whichever way it goes, it would surely be entertaining.
I don’t know if the idea of getting Rooney to DC is the idea of their ownership, Ben Olson, or both. Either way, I can’t see it working out well. But, I can never see SKC going that route with PV at the helm. The closest they ever came to that kind of marketing insanity is having Ochocinco practice with the squad.
I get that, but there are a number of mls sides looking at people like Rooney, and Torres and Balotelli and Falcao. I support these moves, because SKC is never and probably should not feel bad about never, going after big money prestige signings. However, while others chase fame and the trully expensive, can't we chase players a level below that? And shouldn't that open up the field for us?Valencia is a full step down in the fame scale from these folks, though still quite well known. I could see him nettitng 15--20 in a full season with this skc group. FWIW I totally agree with kcsupporter on Balotelli. He could be an implosion who brings down a decent side in MLS. He could also be the best striker we've ever seen in MLS. I mean, on talent, he's been considered among the very elite on Earth for a while, yet he's still young and in his prime. And he's been very good in France this season (26 goals in all comps).
I think super Mario needs a bigger stage than we can offer. Guy wants attention and drama and accolades. I don't think mls can provide him with the ego work he runs on.
After Zlatan’s wonder debut against LAFC, he has been decidedly pedestrian, the Galaxy have continued mostly losing, and now he has a red card. Would be nice if we could find a Bradley Wright-Phillips or a Josef Martinez.
I was as disappointed as anyone when Bravo was only here for one season. But looking at his stats, PV may have known he was over the hill. From 2001-2008, he scored 1 goal every 2.6 games for Chivas. From 2008-2017, he scored 1 goal every 4.1 games for 8 different clubs (including two minor league teams.) I think PV saw he wasn’t going to be more than a 10-goals per season man, at the very most. With Cruz Azul from 2012 to 2013, he only scored 6 goals in 36 games. PV hasn’t had good success with strikers not named Dwyer, but Bravo wasn’t going to be the answer.
But when we gave him a chance, he sure looked class at times. Also, he really seemed as if he'd be a better answer in the playoffs, in those games when we had no one else who could create something on their own. He probably wasn't more than a 10 goal guy by the time we had him. And compare his numbers in MLS to his numbers in the Prem, or even the championship, and they show that his goal every 1.5 games in MLS could not have been predicted by his 2 goals in two seasons total with Man City, or goal every three games with Charlton. The gap between Liga MX and MLS has narrowed and may be vanishing soon, but when Bravo arrived, it was still substantial. Six goals in a season worth of games for Chivas against superior LIga MX defenses at that time didn't translate to meh in MLS.
Piatti is available? I know this would be a short term idea, but kind of worth a crapton to us. With him, I would think the West is ours. I would think the SS is very much in reach. I would not bet against us for MLS Cup. We'd be the most complete side in MLS. Also, just realized I deleted a sentence in the above post in which whIch I was comparing Bravo's middling numbers to the previous middling numbers of BWP. BWP was in the prem and championship and first. Bravo not so much.
