My impression (I haven't solidly dug in to the numbers) from this past season is that such an idea is no longer true, or at least much less so than the past. It might still have an effect in DC, CHI, and (I think) HOU, but from what I recall for other teams was that attendance didn't see huge fluctuations based on who was visiting.
When Orlando visited Rochester, the Flash got their second highest attendance of the season (only the home finale against Houston drew better). The next week saw Portland visit and the Flash had their lowest attendance of the season.
Wow!! No wonder she couldn't turn it down, especially while the USSF is haggling over peanut-pay (comparatively speaking) for the new collective bargaining agreement.
haha Okay, so other teams *did* see big fluctuations - just in both directions! X-D So "big player" draws aren't that predictive

We will see how she does in the NWSL.
So WNY swapped a 3rd round pick in 2018 for the rights to Rosana from the Dash. Apparently, as Dan Lauretta was nice enough to research for me, Houston somehow still holds the contract for Rosana even though she was signed in 2015 but never played due to the Brazilian residency. NWSL is as close to life long contracts as it seems possible.
Amandine Henry must be shaking her head. She left Lyon because they wouldn't bring her contract up to the level of arguably one of the top five players in Woso
The old reserve clause of pro sports, including MLB which was struck down in 1975 by arbitration. The players may have to have a union to negotiate or challenge that away.
