Yankees stave off elimination in the Wild Card race thanks to Mark Teixeira's walk-off grand slam in the 9th. The Blue Jays lost to the Orioles so the Red Sox still clinched the East division title.

Owens replaces Pomeranz as Boston's starter tonight.

This is the 24th consecutive season the Yankees will finish with a better than .500 record. Here are the longest five streaks of winning seasons in MLB history...

    1. New York Yankees (1926-64): 39
    2. New York Yankees (1992-2016): 24
    3. Baltimore Orioles (1968-85): 18
    4. Chicago White Sox (1951-67): 17
    5. Boston Red Sox (1967-82): 16

    Other sports...
    NFL - Dallas Cowboys (1966-85): 20
    NBA - Utah Jazz (1984-2004): 21
    NHL - Montreal Canadiens (1952-83): 32

In the above list of MLB winning seasons, the current Yankees streak should read from 1993-2016 -- not 1992.

Some may want to know what the National League record is, since the top 5 were all A.L. teams. The N.L. record for consecutive winning seasons is 15, held by both the Atlanta Braves (1991-2005) and St. Louis Cardinals (1939-53).

Yankees have decided to pull Masahiro Tanaka from his scheduled final start on Saturday. Luis Severino gets the call.

vs. Baltimore Orioles (88-72) at Yankee Stadium
    Orioles 8, Yankees 1 - http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=360930110
Sat.- Luis Severino (3-8, 5.75) vs. Wade Miley (9-13, 5.40); 4:05 on YES
Sun.- Luis Cessa (4-3, 4.18) vs. Kevin Gausman (8-12, 3.66); 3:05 on YES
    (end of regular season)

    A.L. Wild Card
    Baltimore: 88-72, .550 (+1)
    Toronto: 87-73, .544
    __________
    Detroit: 86-73, .541 (-½)
    Seattle: 86-74, .538 (-1)

The season finally comes to a merciful end. At least the kids gave us something to cheer about over the last two months. I hope we hold on to all of them and don't do anything dumb -- Please!

With Baltimore's win and Toronto defeating Boston, they both advance to the Wild Card game. The Orioles will play the Blue Jays on Tuesday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

    vs. Baltimore Orioles
    (89-73) at Yankee Stadium
    Orioles 8, Yankees 1 - http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=360930110
    Yankees 7, Orioles 3 - http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=361001110
    Orioles 5, Yankees 2 - http://www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=361002110
    (end of regular season)

    A.L. East - Final Standing
    Boston: 93-69, .574
    Baltimore: 89-73, .549 (-4)
    Toronto: 89-73, .549 (-4)
    New York: 84-78, .519 (-9)
    Tampa Bay: 68-94, .420 (-25)

    A.L. Wild Card
