Draw results for the #AFFSuzukiCup2016 qualifiers, which take place in October. I guess Australia is not participating in this edition of the Suzuki Cup.
Cambodia 3-2 Timor Leste: Angkor Warriors are Qualification Round winners Cambodia vs Timor Leste Final Score: Cambodia 3-2 Timor Leste (HT: 2-2) National Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh Friday, October 21, 2016 Cambodia sealed their place in November's tournament courtesy of Chan Vathanaka – as the young Boeung Ket Angkor forward notched the game winner midway through the second half. While a draw would have been enough to send the hosts through, Vathanaka ensured there would be no nervous moments as he slammed home his second goal of the game in the second half. Cambodia will now make their first appearance in the AFF Suzuki Cup since 2008. http://www.affsuzukicup.com/news/ca...gkor-warriors-are-qualification-round-winners
The Suzuki Cup was approved by FIFA as a Category A tournament recently which will have an effect on the FIFA rankings.
then will it be different in terms of points for FIFA rankings? so the points higher than friendly 'A' game ?
I saw that on one of the pinoy football discussions and thought that the tournament would be considered more than a friendly. If it is still rated as a friendly by FIFA though, then you are right jonny, then there wouldn't be any change in how the FIFA rankings is calculated.
The rubbish Singapore team is going to be whacked left right and centre by Thailand and Philippines. Can't wait to see Sundram get sacked.
I think someone is getting the terms Tier 1 and "A" International Teams mixed up. Without Tier 1 status the matches would not be considered friendlies for the purpose of FIFA Rankings. A Tier 1 International competition must involve the "A" Teams of the countries involved. The Suzuki Cup would have always been a Tier 1 Tournament.

Nope. Many of the best players who are based abroad like Etheridge and Patino who played in the WC qualifiers were not released by their clubs, bec. the Suzuki Cup is not a FIFA sanctioned continental event. Many of their veterans especially in defence who played for top tier teams in Europe have also retired and in my opinion were not replaced adequately by similar players in key positions at the moment. So this team in the Suzuki Cup is not as strong as those fielded during the WC qualifiers, but will still be competitive regionally.
Care to share to us your top players which based in Europe now ? i only know Stephen Shrock that last played with my fav teams, Eintracht Frankfurt in 1.Bundesliga
Only a few players are still playing in Europe. Most of them who were playing in 2nd division and lower in Europe have moved to the UFL. Only Sato is still playing in a premier division team with Romanian team Iasi and he is still unsure of being released and making the final roster as his club is currently in season. Former Fulham(when it was still in the Premiership) backup goalkeeper Etheridge was not released by his League One team Walsall which is also still in session during the Suzuki Cup, as he is arguably the best player for the team and indispensable for their efforts to get promoted to the Championship level. Fortunately former 2Bundesliga player Muller who has now moved to the UFL will still be available at goalie. 21 y/o FC Nurnberg attacking mid Mike Ott was given permission by his team and will also be available to join his brother on the roster. There are several players who are playing top tier reserves or 2nd division teams in Europe who are also eligible to play for the Azkals, but are still holding up hope of being called up by their respective country's national men's teams as national team youth players or are rising talents from the top tier or 2nd division. One, French national youth team mainstay Alphonse Areola who starts for PSG most of the time, has not been capped yet by France but has been consistently been called up regularly in recent games as #3 goalkeeper when the French men's national team convenes. He is most likely lost to the Philippines despite being 100 % of Filipino extraction. There are also several players who have been lost to injury like Rota and Reichelt, who have started for the Azkals in the past and have had significant European experience on their resume, who will be missed for this tournament.

http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/2477...8762/thailands-aff-suzuki-cup-squad-confirmed It looks like Thailand is bringing their A team. I would consider them overwhelming favorites to win the Suzuki Cup. Because of players not getting released, retirements and injuries which has forced the Azkals to set up a patched up defence, I am not too optimistic about the Philippine's chances in this tournament.
Pretty sure Philippines can beat Singapore. We have a shit coach and the team doesn't have enough heart.

Far from it. I count at least 8 players missing from the Suzuki Cup roster who were part of the WC qualifying squad (lost due to retirements, injuries or not released by their clubs), most of whom were starters.

The 2nd game was poor. Singapore as expected fielded almost a full team of defenders and Philippines lacked the creativity to break them down.
The Philippines were missing their best forward on offence, Javier Patino who was not released by his Chinese club, Henan Jiaye. He not only scored but created a lot of chances for other players during the WC qualifiers. Singapore played a tactically disciplined game which neutralized most of the Filipino's attacks, surrendering most of the possession to the Filipinos. The Philippines were close in the 2nd half with 3 clear chances on goal, but they just couldn't finish. Kudos to the Singaporean goalkeeper for his 2nd half performance.
