OC is paying him something in the mid-300s, we were offering something in the high 200s. I don't think they're overpaying him, but that doesn't mean his price wouldn't have been higher to stay in Philly than to go to Orlando. but if we spend 400K on a European DM, and could have kept Okugo at that rate, that might have been a better decision.
The @afcbournemouth vs. @PhilaUnion friendly will count as a BONUS game for season ticket members.— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) June 2, 2015
I didn't think it got much worse than Crystal Palace. Boy was I wrong, AFC Bournemouth? Makes sense -- sure-fire relegation quality teams play each other. When did Philly becomes such a non-entity city? More proof that the Union do not matter to anyone in the soccer world. Anyone need tickets? And to continue my rant on how terrible our organization is ... how do we announce this at the same time that Sepp Blatter resigns from FINRA. Lets see, the biggest story in soccer this year is happening right now and it has nothing to do with the Union -- lets announce our lousy friendly bonus game against a no-name relegation opponent. Who is running this show?
I'm not a fan of this friendly, but I don't think they will get relegated. Their manager is an absolutely brilliant up and comer. I'd expect them to stay up and survive a few years. They have a good chance of becoming another Swansea. Watford, Sunderland, Newcastle, and Villa are all bigger relegation candidates.
In fairness, the Union have had some friendlies against some big name teams, like Manchester United and Real Madrid. Plus, this is a matchup of your 2014-15 Football League Championship champions and your 2015 IMG Suncoast Pro Classic champions! The winner goes to the Club World Cup, I think. Show a little respect!
Apples and oranges. Those teams were here for that "Summer of Soccer" thing, not invited by the Union. No way in hell Sak could get a team like them to come here and (presumably) play at PPL Park.
Weren't those the matches where the "visiting" teams were treated more like the home team than the Union? I remember the Linc decorated in colors and banners that certainly weren't Union-related.
Het now.......he was able to get a "little Club called Celtic FC" to play at PPL Park........ditto Everton FC and Aston Villa............
That happened a section over from where I had seats in ZOLO. Good Times! That was a fun game to be at. Brian Perk played out of his mind in net that night!
Game atmosphere was fun, but getting to that match due to the monsoon earlier in the day was a nightmare!
