Me not comprendo , why the hell did they sign Billy Forbes 2 days ago for the upcoming 2016 season ? http://www.sascorpions.com/news/201...eturns-to-lead-the-san-antonio-attack-in-2016
Then there's this excerpt from the article I linked to earlier: "Without a coach, Howard Cornfield stated in the press release that they would not be advancing on signing players without a new coach in place." Sooo...he's a bit fat liar. I would also have to assume they're going to sell him (or try to at least).
Um what? We formed almost two years BEFORE we had a club ... the Scorpions evolving, devolving, or whatever happens isn't going to remove us from the landscape. If anything, it'll strengthen us as we've proved that this city is a place where professional soccer should and needs to be.
Yes, but is there a team? Unless Gordon Hartman just woke up on Wednesday morning and said lets to the deal (seeing how pissed off the fans and media coverage), it does not make any sense. Even in his release yesterday, they say they cannot talk about anything. If there is still the Scorpions around, you would think that there would be some general acknowledgement.
... pretty sure Forbes knows who he signed with (or who it would be) for 2016. Just saying. Of course, the Scorpions could just be taken over and moved to USL as the Scorpions or new team (although the stadium is kind of branded and that'd be a good chunk of change that SS&E would have to fork over quickly to modify for next season ... don't see that happening).
Interesting view of the soccer "war" in San Antonio. but this caught my attention. "The fate of the Scorpions organization is uncertain. It was business as usual for the staff Thursday, with an eye toward whatever next year might hold. There are still plans to hire a coach and sign players." having said that, I know the staff has been cut down a few people, and really who would want to coach a team, that at this time is on life support? or would players really want to sign with the Scorpions for 1 year? And I have no doubt that the attendance is going to drop, if the Spurs are running a USL team as well. I know for me, I have no clue on who I would get season tickets with, the past or the future? http://www.expressnews.com/sports/c...ticle/It-turned-into-Soccer-V-Day-6613641.php
Relevant to San Antonio Scorp fans: BREAKING: #spurs will have soccer announcement on the week of 11/16 (exact day TBD). Team name, colors still undecided for now. #MLSinSA— Geoff Sheen (@mrgeoffsilvius) November 8, 2015 With many moving parts, details need to be hammered out before #spurs send check to USL to join league. #MLSinSA— Geoff Sheen (@mrgeoffsilvius) November 8, 2015
In general, I root for soccer teams to succeed in the US. I enjoy watching the sport grow which is why I am not too thrilled about the developments in SA with the Scorpions. It has been funny looking at the posts in the USL thread about San Antonio from 2011 & 2012 about the Soccer for a Cause business model. I remember being skeptical that the plan would work long term and even short term. Then the Scorpions did about everything right in year 1 & year 2 and I some how forgot about my skepticism. Now, several years later, it seems those concerns about the business model for the club are finally coming true as Hartman sells the stadium and sells, or folds the team. It's a shame to see the team go from the NASL.
I understand hesitation about going from NASL to USL (which seems realistic now) but with the overall plan to move to MLS that seems like a positive for SA fans. I think a lot will be determined how Spurs run their pro team next year. It seems it can't be worse than it was this year in the NASL. However if they get Cornfield, step one is boot him out into the street. In public.
Looks like the Scorpions(the NASL franchise and the brand) will be dead within days. What do we do with this forum? Just rename and move it to the USL forum?

Is there any chance that the Spurs organization would buy the Scorpions franchise and move it to USL. Is Hartman prohibited from selling the Scorpions to a non-NASL owner? It just does not make sense why it was not sold as part of the stadium deal unless their is a right of first refusal for NASL for the franchise I am just scared they will call the USL team San Antonio FC, San Antonio United or San Antonio City.
Not sure how NASL has any say considering that the franchise license was only through this year. As has been stated, the likely scenario was SS&E making sure that the sale/lease of the stadium was passed (still had to pass the votes and be made official) before moving on anything else. Hartman owned BOTH the Scorpions AND the stadium ... they are two separate entities in terms of assets.

Wonder what the delay is. I am hoping the delay is that behind the scenes that Mr. Hartman and SSE are working together to keep the name and in NASL. Its just been very quite with no news from either side. Or one can hope..
Not really new but it's a call to discuss a new name of the USL team. http://m.sacurrent.com/Blogs/archiv...ld-we-name-the-new-soccer-team-in-san-antonio
