Costa Rica has reneged on hosting the U-17 Women's World Cup. They have pulled out completely. Therefore, the host is now in limbo. So for now, the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2014 is being held in Uranus. Not the most pleasant world to host the World Cup, but it's still a world nonetheless (even if it's a world that doesn't smell the best). Top candidates now to replace Costa Rica are the who's who of women's futebol (Ghana, Turkey, and world power Uzbekistan, which sounds more like a nation located in Uranus, than on Earth). Did we not learn from the youth WWC tournaments in 2012? To have these crazy hosts that can no longer host, and then it gets flipped to Japan or some other advanced nation at the last second. Why not just plan to host it in an advanced nation all the time? Japan, China, Australia, any prominent nation in Europe, USA, Canada, Brazil, even South Africa. There are plenty of solid choices. Yet FIFA chooses to pick out Chile, Uzbekistan, and Azerbuagioagjjan, and Uranus. Azerbuagioagjjan was not the best host for the U-17 WWC in 2012. And they were horrible on the pitch. It's an embarrasment to nations like Azerbuagioagjjan, Uzbekistan, Uruguay, Gambia, etc. in these youth WWC tournaments (U-17 and U-20), to lose by ten goals or more. How do we fix it? Simple solution. Do this .... Host: Rotate fairly between Japan, China, Australia/New Zealand, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, England, Sweden, USA, Canada, Brazil, and South Africa. The other 15 nations would always look like this .... Host (1.0) CONCACAF (3.0) (Mexico and Costa Rica are actually getting better at the youth levels) CONMEBOL (1.5) (make CONMEBOL earn their 2nd spot. Uruguay was terrible in 2012) UEFA (4.0) (just because FIFA won't give them anymore at the youth level, unless they host) CAF (2.0) (CAF doesn't deserve more than two. Gambia was horrible in the U-17 WWC) AFC (3.5) (there are plenty of good Asian teams, including both Korea's, Japan, China, Australia) OFC (1.0) (Ferns, just make sure you make OFC qualifying "on-time", your only qualification) Make Colombia or Uruguay at the U-17 level at the very least have to beat a South Korea, China, or Australia type of team from AFC, in a wildcard, for the 16th and final spot. *LINK* http://equalizersoccer.com/2013/02/28/costa-rica-pulls-out-as-u-17-womens-world-cup-host/ Near virtual facts about these youth WWC tournaments: *The 4th best team in CONCACAF (Costa Rica) is getting better than the 2nd best team in CONMEBOL *The 5th best team in AFC (Asia), is better than the best team in OFC, better than the 2nd best team in CONMBEOL, and clearly better than the 3rd best team in CAF (anyone not named Nigeria or Ghana at the youth level from CAF) FIFA likes to balance it out across the world for these youth tournaments, but also please balance in some more fierce competitiveness in there as well to blend in with that. I hate knowing what two teams are going to get out of each group before the group stage begins, because just about every group has two strong teams, and two weaklings, in these youth tournaments anymore, except for the one group of death (France, North Korea, and USA, in which 3 of the Top 4 teams were in the same group. France played against North Korea in the Final, and the U.S. was a Top 4 team, along with Germany at the U-17 level).
No. If they are going to pay for it and FIFA keep the profits then we will have it in North Korea or Zimbawe if need be. Mexico probably could step up and take the 2014 WC, not sure if they wanted but they have nice stadiums where it could be played (Monterrey, Guadalajara, Puebla and Mex City have multiple stadiums with in the city).
this is sad. Would have been nice to see Costa Rica host this tournament. I'd Mexico is a good solution if they want it.
Uranus is hosting it in nations like Uzbekistan or Gambia, etc. Which is where this tournament will be. Although, I won't mind too much if it's in Turkey.
That's good to see. CONCACAF should get 4 teams in (including the host Costa Rica). They got 3 teams in the 2012 U-17 WWC. They usually balance the U-17 WWC tournament among all the confederations, almost equally. I expect it to look like this: Host: (1.0) (Costa Rica) CONCACAF: (3.0) (USA, Canada, Mexico) CONMEBOL: (3.0) (Brazil, Colombia, Argentina) UEFA: (3.0) (Germany, France, Spain) CAF: (2.0) (Nigeria, Ghana) AFC: (3.0) (Japan, North Korea, Australia) OFC: (1.0) (New Zealand) Please no Gambia, Uruguay, or Azerbaigaijgoaan, this time.
This tournament starts on March 15, which is less than six months away. Only Costa Rica has qualified as Host, & New Zealand as the default winners of OFC, before qualifying has begun. Paraguay and Venezuela have also qualified. http://www.fifa.com/u17womensworldcup/qualifiers/index.html
AFC Qualifiers are determined by the AFC U-16 championship, which just started. China beat Bahrain by a score of 17-0. And Japan beat Guam 19-0. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_AFC_U-16_Women's_Championship
Azerbaijan one of these "crazy host nations" you refer to has the biggest attendance of the 3 nations that hosted an u17 Women's World Cup.
I'm going to predict the 16 teams that will Qualify. HOST: Costa Rica CONCACAF: USA, Canada CONMEBOL: Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay UEFA: Germany, France, Norway CAF: Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana AFC: China, Japan, North Korea OFC: New Zealand Teams from U-17 WWC (2012) who won't Qualify: Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Azerbaijan, Gambia Teams Qualifying who didn't Qualify in 2012: Costa Rica, Venezuela, Paraguay, Norway, South Africa
And a big surprise already during qualifying! The US team only tied Mexico in the semifinals and then lost the penalty shoot-out.
The OFC will not hold a U-17 qualifying tournament, thus New Zealand qualifies automatically for the U-17 WWC. So that's two teams that are advancing to the WC without ever playing a qualifying match. I think New Zealand should have been forced into a play-off with the AFC's 4th place team(Thailand) at least.
The draw will take place on 17 December http://www.nacion.com/deportes/futb...-Sub-17-Femenino-Costa-Rica_0_1375262539.html Participants : CONCACAF : Costa Rica, Mexico , Canada UEFA: Germany, Spain, Italy CAF : Ghana , Zambia , Nigeria CONMEBOL : Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay AFC: Japan , DPR Korea, China PR OCEANIA : New Zealand I wonder which countries will be seeded apart from Costa Rica.
If the top seeds were based on 2012's finish, Germany, Ghana & DPR Korea will be in Pot 1 with Costa Rica. POT 1: Costa Rica(hosts), DRP Korea, Ghana, Germany POT 2: Spain, Italy, Japan, China POT 3: Mexico, Canada, Nigeria, Zambia POT 4: Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, New Zealand GROUP A: Costa Rica, Japan, Nigeria, Colombia GROUP B: DPR Korea, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand GROUP C: Ghana, Spain, Canada, Venezuela GROUP D: Germany, China, Zambia, Paraguay
You can watch the draw here: It starts at 2:00 am UTC+1 (CET), so probably most European fans are already sleeping then.
Costa Rica , Japan , Germany and Mexico as seeded teams as champions of their confederations Pot 2 : Canada, Venezuela, Colombia and Paraguay Pot 3 : Nigeria, Zambia , Ghana and New Zealand Pot 4 : China PR, Korea, Spain and Italy http://www.crhoy.com/alemania-mexic...rie-en-el-sorteo-del-mundial-femenino-sub-17/
My mistake , in Pot 4 DPR Korea instead of Korea. We can have very unbalance groups . Germany - Canada - DPR korea - Nigeria or Costa Rica - Paraguay - New Zealand - China PR
Draw for U17 WWC Costa Rica 2014 A) Costa Rica Venezuela Italy Zambia B) Ghana DPR Korea Germany Canada C) New Zealand Paraguay Spain Japan D) Mexico Colombia China PR Nigeria
